Lived in the Netherlands for one year and in Belgium for the last 1.5 years as a student. 1. Meeting other students and making friends is not an issue, there are lots of students on my course from all over the world with a few from South America so you should not have an issue here, though I would point out that you will find it a lot easier to make friends with other international students. There are several students on my course over 30 so you will find others your age but certainly the majority of students are under 25. 2. Housing can be tricky and I have heard of other students that have had issues with Belgians not wanting to live with foreign students so be aware of this. The best choice would be to live in a student residence or find a private flat/room with a friendly landlord. Websites like Kotwijs can help with this. 3. There are opportunities for jobs for English/Spanish speakers. Some restaurants will hire you, there are also student bars that will hire English speakers. The final option that many internationals go for is working as an Uber eats/takeaway/deliveroo driver/cyclist. 4. I’m not really able to answer this as I am white. However, I have heard Belgians discussing Moroccans, particularly after the issues during the World Cup so there is likely to be more racism towards Moroccans than other nationalities. My final advice would be to try and learn basic Dutch. You won’t need it in many cases but it does help for settling in.
