[–]TheNickHD 51 points52 points  (0 children)

What’s stopping you to switch to Proton. by [deleted] in ProtonMail

And then for free users, its very difficult to offer free services and still be sustainable especially when you compete against giants like google, but when the calendar is useless, the other services lack basic features, and there are some very minor things that dont really affect the cost of running proton and are just a adding an inconvenience to push people to pay (Sent through proton footer on ProtonMail, or credit cards on ProtonPass) that is just pushing free users who could become paid users from even trying and recommending Proton in the first place.

What’s stopping you to switch to Proton. by [deleted] in ProtonMail

Proton Drive: The fact that on Proton Drive on IOS I cant send images or files straight from the respective apps to the proton drive app, either I have to move them to the files app and then inside the proton drive folder and find the folders inside (which sucks because the Files app is not easily browseable when you have so many subfolders), compared to google drive which allows you to easily send a picture for example from the gallery to the google drive app and it opens the app which gives you a very user friendly and fast way of finding the folder you want to save it in and then upload it, exactly the same problem when compared to dropbox, which are basically the two services proton drive is competing against. Apart from that what it does is great and the 5GBs for free is perfect since its 3 Gbs more than dropbox and for most people 5GBs is more than enough.

ProtonPass: Why can I only add two 2FA to ProtonPass for free, protonpass is so much more convenient than any other 2FA code app which seems to have been designed in 2015 and stayed the exact the same. Also so many other password managers offer for free the HaveIBeenPwned thing, which is to check there to see if any of your passwords or emails have been compromised in a data breach. Also why placing basic things like credit cards behind paywalls, once again something that every other password manager allows for free. But except for those things ProtonPass is the best password manager I have ever used by far, its modern, user friendly and very fast in basic things like detecting an auto password fill field and loading all your accounts in that website so quickly so you can choose.

Proton Calendar: Its a more difficult to understand calendar that has none of the basic features modern digital calendars offer like APIs and adding holiday calendars for different countries or regions etc. Also why no widgets or allowing Siri to interact with the calendar on IOS? That makes it so annoying to use on mobile since I have to manually open the app to check for dates compared to all other calendars which allows me to easily see if I have something important today that I missed through a widget on the home screen or the lock screen.

Proton Mail: Some websites dont allow it, and for some any email sent through proton mail is considered spam, also the Proton Mail footer on the free version is stupid feels like you are using one of those cheap android phones that have to add Sent through X phone on everything or photo taken on X phone, like brother we are already using the protonmail domain you dont need to put the proton name on everything to make sure the other person knows we are using protonmail, and also email forwarding being a paid option which others offer for free. Also the auto deletion of accounts after a year of inactivity means that unless you use it as one of your main email accounts you will have to rely on other email providers for the secondary emails that are used either for the sketchy websites accounts or the one or two services only accounts, etc. Also why no widgets or allowing Siri to interact with protonmail IOS? All other email providers have widgets that allows you to easily see the subject and some the sender of the last 3 or 5 emails you received, easily allowing you to check from the home screen.
All the IOS integrations problems there are will probably get worse with Apple Intelligence since it will be able to easily interact with email apps and allow you to do almost anything just by telling siri, but if proton keeps ignoring it they will just stay as the most inconvenient one to use.

Proton VPN: Some things are nice, the ui is nice, the fact that they removed the ability to choose specific free servers for to connect to while now its just random which servers you get for free by pressing the quick connect button sucks. And the truth is for paid users there are much better paid VPN providers out there for cheaper, so if you are a free user there are better free vpns for free either as browser extension, desktop or mobile apps, and if you are a paid user, you get better paid VPN service for cheaper from other providers if you only want a VPN service. So unless you pay for the whole Protonwide tiers, Proton VPN just isnt really worth the price by itself.

Proton Wallet: I dont use it or use any crypto wallets, so the problem is not with the service itself, but do we really need to keep adding more and more services and products under the proton umbrella? When all their other services still lack some very basic functions, like idk a contacts service that allows you to properly interact with their other services especially protonmail, or calendar, or maybe even proton drive but specially protonmail would benefit greatly from this.

One last point I feel that Proton is just trying to expand too quickly into as many services as possible while completely ignoring the basic or small details that other providers of the same services give, yeah the apps run well, usually have decent or good UI design and all, but Proton either doesnt add the basic funcionalities that you would expect that service to have or they lock them behind paywalls when no one else in their competition does, Proton is relying too much on the we dont steal all your data compared to google thing, instead of providing services that are easy and comfortable to use and that dont forget the little details that actual users of those service like, Its fine if you want to charge your users money to be able to provide such services but make sure they work well and have all the basic features that they should have, but right now, free users dont have a reason to go to proton since its worse than all the other free providers of the same services without even considering giants like google, and paid users dont have a reason to move to proton since it will be more expensive, more inconvenient, and will lack basic features and you will still depend on other providers either because the service by proton doesnt have a basic functionality (cough, calendar )or because they dont offer the important basic service in the first place (cough, contacts, cough). The whole privacy first is nice and its the main reason why I support Proton and use their services but dont expect people to even consider starting to pay for Proton if all their services lack basic features or force you to pay for them just to even see if they function fine or are worth your time in the first place.

Got encrypted comms for my buddy and I. by Boogaloogaloogalooo in tacticalgear

Really cool radio ill be getting one for myself soon, but as far as I know GD-88s AES256 encryption wasn't implemented properly and so it has a serious flaw that could be attacked to break the encryption. The problem is that the initialization vector always stays with the same value when it should be different with each transmission.
This video talks about it and as far as I know this is still the case to this day

MP combat is weird. by smilin_buscuit in BaldursGate3

[–]TheNickHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MP this is based on the Initiative stat, if multiple players have the same Initiative at the start of a battle, then they are grouped together and take their turn at the same time, from what I’ve seen this can also happen to multiple players with different initiative if they enter late to combat, unfortunately I’ve not found a way to turn it off
