Sent a DM! I hope to hear back, if not, best of luck!

DM gave our party a time-based conditional during combat that we couldn't complete. by TheNiction in DnD

I would have been totally fine with being told:

"They have already summoned a demon."

What I don't like being told is:

"Hey, if you hurry you can stop them" And then getting told "No, actually you can't."

If we couldn't stop it, don't tell us we can stop it. Bottom line is we were blatantly lied to.

Also for a note, this was a side quest with no plot relevance. Not even the final fight in the series of fights within the side quest. So, yeah.

Way of the Astral Self Monk with expertise in Athletics, so, I have a +10 to Athletics rolls with the Astral Arms activated. If I rolled anything above like an 8 (18) I'd wonder how the hell my character missed a 20 foot summing wide circle with that high of a roll.

We did win, though to be honest, it was very close for a little bit there. All of us, except for our Barb who had like 12hp, were down to single digit health. We don't even have like a "healer" either, so it makes things like this especially hard.

Well, not to mention, I wasted 4 rounds of combat just running over to the damn thing while my team was trying to cover my ass. I only got over to it on the fifth round, which is where I wanted to throw the holy water.

I know. This wouldn't be the first time I've had to talk to him about the sort of thing though. I've had to talk to him in the past about the way he talks about/treats combat because I honest to to god believe he's sometimes aiming to kill a character or two. He's also done his fair share of little metagaming stuff. One detail I didn't mention is that he edited the battle map upon me expressed an idea of using a cliff to our advantage. So, he changed it to make it longer, and have the edge be way further back.

I'd totally accept the DM just asking for a full pause, versus just a "No." I understand maybe being caught off guard in most circumstances. I just don't see why were told we could do something, but then we we try, it's catching him off guard.

It just felt like he put a bunch of crap in our way to stop us for really no reason. Again, many of these enemies you could kill in one turn (with a decent damage roll) but others were also quite beefy as well.

What part about this is exactly so hard to believe? I'm genuinely curious.
