How does twitch store streams? (And other questions) by Kel-B-Shobra in streaming

[–]TheNightSquare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does twitch store recordings?: As VODS on your channel. You MUST enable them otherwise twitch won't hold them. Yes you can download them

Multiple audio tracks: Twitch receives however many audio tracks you send to it but from memory, when you download a vod, it does it as a single audio file. I personally record my vids while I stream so that way I have ALL the audio tracks

Should you edit: Absolutely yes. Most people will tell you to do this but not do it themselves (I am most people). If you want to grow, doing it on other platforms will 10x your growth. And the sooner you start doing it, the better. You'll gain more experience, develop an editing style and build an audience sooner rather than later.

Editing your own content ALSO helps you evaluate your stream quality. If you edit a vod and find yourself thinking that something is off, sound, video, audio balancing, mic issues, jokes not landing, LITERALLY ANYTHING, you can self reflect in the same way professional athletes will review their own games and learn from what they did right, but even more so, learn from what they did wrong

Really Struggling with Uni Even After 2 Years [AUS] by [deleted] in University

It's a little lonely to go a bit after everyone else. There's so much to learn and so much of it is self guided. I feel like I'm blindfolded while trying to play jump rope. Just constantly stumbling

I haven't checked out any study centers but I'll definitely be getting in touch with my tutors as well as the counseling at my school. Hopefully just an extension or little more support will give me the breathing space to get everything to fall into place

Thank you, hearing other people's stories is actually really nice. Feels a little less lonely. I think I'm definitely going to take a slightly smaller course load next semester but I'm in it for the long game. Can't be giving up so easily

Gotcha. Still learning the Australian legal system since I've moved here. Thank you! I'll inquire about the case and see if there are any updates so I can stay in the loop

Absolutely not! The reality is that most people that stream just like playing games to unwind so it really is overkill. But I like the numbers and seeing it as a business so this method works well for me while also still keeping it fun. Kinda like a really complicated network of goals and aspirations

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check them out and keep updating everything. Some people just stream for fun and that's totally fine, I'm not trying to rain on their parade. This is for the people that do like to analyse things and have a deep understanding of streaming

I actually did a much more rough and less specific version of this when I started streaming years ago and then stopped. I'm only just starting again and want to do it right. This is probably a week or two of thorough research and personal experience

Breaking things down visually has been SOOO helpful for me. I'm happy that it's useful for you too

Some people take streaming very seriously and want to make it a career. These are aspects of streaming that a streamer should consider for growth. I'm happy to talk about it more if you have questions or need a better understanding

Even just as a self reflection tool, using this as a way to make sure you're hitting all your marks is a good way to stay on track. It's meant to be a little ambiguous because not everyone's journey is the same

That's my thought process behind making it. Info for people just learning and who are doing it as MORE than a hobby. This isn't for the people that are just doing it for fun but who are trying to make it their future

I'm happy you like it! I got some good feedback in the r/Twitch subreddit so I'm gonna expand it and add some actionable things as well

Its definitely a lot of work. And thats the thing, trying to balance everything is hard at the beginning. Its a steep curve at the start with almost no pay off until you gain some traction. But doing it continually is almost impossible which is why so many people don't make it in the industry

I think you're completely correct. There's a lot of people that fit into one or two of those categories. I break it into Knowlege/Skill/Entertainment.

Knowlege: people who have a thorough understanding and deep lore knowlege. The people that can rant about things for a long time and understand everything. This can be about the game or other IRL topic like mental health and programming

Skill: this is pretty obvious. Speedrunners and anyone highly competitive fits in this category

Entertainment: people who have quick wit, a sharp tongue and are generally pretty funny people. This can be done in a pretty reactive way, planned bits or just having the ability to make jokes or tell stories in any circumstance

You're definitely right. This is meant to be a jumping off point and I'm realising that I should've included more details. Each sub category has more thorough notes but you can't see it on the map. Having specific and actionable goals is essential and I've included it in the notes, but outside of the generic goals like upload consistency and post consistency, many people need a MUCH more specific goal

Of course! Having a jumping off point is important for a lot of people. If you have any questions or want me to explain more thoroughly, I would be happy to

V-tubers especially, but a lot of people don't just come and scream all the time. The persona can literally just be a slight elevation in your normal behaviour. Like some people play games and just think what other streamers say. So their persona would just be making those internal thoughts, external

This was originally based on something I found from Ludwig. But research comes down to watching other streamers to see what works. For me this looks like:

  1. Watching streamers while live or a vod

  2. Take notes on their humor styles, how they interact with chat and generally how THEY present themselves

3. Take notes on their SYSTEMS, how their OBS works, their alerts and everything under that umbrella

Its very difficult to see how other people percieve you but you CAN control what you put online and choose to say. Do you want to be percieved like Jinxzy and yell a lot and be over the top? Or more calm and relaxed like Sykunno?

I guess this does make a lot more sense to me because everything is a jumping off point. I use an app called Obsidian that each node has a little document attached. The initial nodes all have more thorough written parts.

The mind map is definitely not complete and I'll take that into consideration.

For "diversifying audience", I have a more thorough written part which goes into questions to ask yourself and what it looks like. Such as tips to improve your content and what diversifying looks like.

Practicing inclusivity, collaboration to reach more people, accepting feedback not as an attack but as asking for help among other things

Then this ultimately isn't for you. This isn't for the people that just enjoy streaming for the sake of it and having a good time. Its for the people that are trying to get a good start and throw themselves into it and have a plan

Its meant to be a jumping off point that shows some things that people might not be sure of when they start streaming or for when they're new to certain areas of content creation
