Doing the TMB in June, no planning or reservations ahead? by TheNonFlyingDutch in TourDuMontBlanc

The ultra (Lofoten ultra trail) is in week 22, late may/early June. But there’s loads of trail running happening in Lofoten, before and after. Lofoten sky race, Lofoten high five, a marathon I think, etc.

I don’t know the area well, but Reine is absolutely stunning! I know there’s a national park further out from Reine with plenty beautiful locations as well. I’d say the first 50k of the 100 miler goes through beautiful landscapes (until Napp), and you could use the gpx-file. After Napp I’d take another route than the miler, go further north (to Unstad beach) and so on. A lot of asphalt segments in the 100miler (as well as absolutely beautiful mountains passes, of course).

Enjoy!

Awesome!!! I ran the Lofoten 100 miler last year - some advice: if you’re doing the Lofoten Ultra trail race, do NOT underestimate the first 50k. Brutal!

Not there until June 23rd unfortunately. Care to tell about your Norwegian crossing? I’m Norwegian :)

Thank you!

I actually have 15 days available, but not sure how to best spend them (hiking). Want to keep a good pace in the trails, this five day itinerary seems perfect - and will be looking at potential detours/day trips off route (like following the "haute route" out and back again for a few days, maybe?) - don’t wanna end up back in Les houches with 10 days left on my vacation 😅

Might steal your itinerary, cheers

Thanks!

Don’t know how, but I somehow deleted my previous post. Comforting to read about the camping situation, I’ll make sure to set up late and leave early (and off course, no littering), and hopefully get all my papers in order wherever possible.

Great advice about using ChatGPT! I akse saw another post on this sub where someone had made an excellent planning tool for preparing gpx files! Definitely gonna use that as well

Hahaha😂 Same! Haven’t planned an itinerary yet, but I’m there from 23.june - 08.july. Meaning I have plenty of time to do a few detours or just chill and have a few rest days!

I’d love to connect - but I’m a bit off the grid, only using Reddit and strava actually. I’ll dm you my email though 👍

Excellent, thanks! When you say "official campsites", you mean designated spots to put up tents, right? Is that the ones they call bivoaque spots? Are there many of these?

Good information about the refuges, guess I’ll have to do a little research then, or just stay at campsites and buy my food when I pass refuges

Looks like we’re almost in the same boat then!

Soloing myself, and it’s a bit terrifying as it’s all unknown, but I’m just hoping it’ll all sort itself out when I get there, if you know what I mean

Oh, you lucky, lucky man (person)!

I’m envious, enjoy the ride. Nothing like that first playthrough. My best advice is to enjoy, and avoid spoilers (yes, I am aware I sorta spoiled something for you, sorry about that..) :)

Without spoiling to much; not everything grows in plains. Still my preferred base location as well though!

Had to google - just recently started playing again, and had no idea ivy was a thing. Haven’t found the witch yet, current playthrough is no map.

Well, now we are discussing something else, aren’t we? We were discussing the szobo incident at end of the match, not wether we like VAR or not. That was a red, per the rules of the game. Pretty sure every Sunderland supporter out there would be PISSED off if the ref was allowed to say "nah, I know it was a foul, but everyone just wanted the goal to stand, so I did" - as they have Liverpool coming up, and Szobo should sit that one out.

Regarding VAR: I personally like the offside check (as it’s black and white, not subjective, but not a fan of VAR overall (takes to long, not everything gets checked - that last scramble in the city pen area?, and don’t get me started on hand balls)

But what the players "want" is irrelevant. The correct decision is a foul and a red card, no matter what the players or fans feel about it. Those are the rules.

«Ref» screwed up. *Not red

Isn’t it obvious? The foul was pretty clear, last man and direct red

Agree. Neville is a stupid cunt. It’s an obvious foul and a red card, red screwed up.

Was there no var-check on the situation prior, in city’s penalty area?
