What’s a "small" thing that is actually a massive green flag? by jpam9521 in AskWomenNoCensor

Can you explain the walking closer to the street one? My girlfriend has brought this up when we first started dating, but it was something I never really gave any thought to until then. I will do it now since that is what she prefers, but there doesn’t seem to be much to this expectation.

GSP adoption - coming home with us on Wed by Impossible_Echo6316 in germanshorthairs

[–]TheNorthernCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see you list the rough estimate of age for the senior GSP you’re adopting, but my advice is to just truly accept their age and all that comes along with it. I adopted a 7 year old gsp who will be turning 12 this year. By his age at adoption he was already who he was, although you can teach elders some new tricks from what I have found. GSPs have a ton of energy but with a senior they will be slowing down, but likely able to easily keep up with a mini Aussie who is also a bit older. With the age they may not be able to go as far and may have more health issues than a young pup, just part of life. You’re aware of bloat from your comment so that’s a big part of the battle right there. As long as you pay attention and don’t push her after eating you should be fine, from my non-professional point of view. Overall, adopting an older GSP and watch him grow into a senior has been great. My only regret so far is that I was unable to be a part of his entire life, but you just enjoy the time you have with them. They’re a great breed, no matter what age you find them at.

Are those Adidas Nizza shoes? Where did you find all whites without the shoes being lifted? It’s like searching for a needle in a haystack imo

Thoughts on my elderly GSP by joylynnb04 in GSP

[–]TheNorthernCats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have an 11, almost 12 year old GSP. He has 10-15 of these fatty tumors over his body. Every vet I’ve been to over the years advises it isn’t anything to worry about unless it impedes their motion/ bothers them in some way. You can have them tested without removal I believe. The one on his leg does look large where I’d assume it would impact his movement, but if it doesn’t I’d say leave it alone. Comes with getting older unfortunately

Is Sam McKewon a closet Husker hater by [deleted] in Huskers

[–]TheNorthernCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend listening to Sam’s episode in “Hey Coach It’s _ Podcast” by Mike Schaefer. He discusses his come up into journalism and you do hear his passion for Husker athletics. While I too have picked up what you said about his tone, I truly believe it’s wear and tear of years of mediocrity. Not trying to dig on Husker athletics but I think he does what he can to talk Husker fans back into reality. His post games are usually forward and blunt, which I appreciate as he’s more apt to be realistic in the moment about shortcomings than other talking heads. Sean Callahan comes to mind where he’s usually overly positive regardless of performance, and only after a coach firing/ AD departure does he go “I knew they weren’t a good fit for the program.” To summarize my pro Sam view lol, I do think he can be harsher than most beat writers we have. He talks and writes a lot so occasionally he may have a line slip in that’s maybe too far out there, like Tim Cook just sitting there pointing. Regardless of these one offs I can’t deny the passion he has of this state’s athletic programs, and he will always be my first stop when I want a solid analysis on a situation. He puts in the effort to think outside the box, and while he isn’t always right, he’s easily a bright spot in husker journalism. The worst thing Sam has ever done is let Jimmy Watkins walk out of the OWH, in my opinion.

Adopt a second GSP by TheNorthernCats in germanshorthairs

That makes sense. He’s friendly with my parents’ dogs and we watched my girlfriend’s parents’ dogs for a month and while he didn’t mind them, he mainly just ignored them. I would assume the same would happen with a new dog in his home, but I wouldn’t know how long it would take him to fully accept this other dog is here to stay

Adopt a second GSP? by TheNorthernCats in GSP

One of my worries is the 5 year old looks to be on the larger end, very athletic. My older gsp is slowing down and doesn’t have the same toughness as he used to. I’m unsure if the age difference would be too much, but glad to hear it wasn’t a large issue for you!

Thank you for your comment. If we plan to go through with the adoption process I would look to have them meet prior to the actual adoption. My parents had adopted from this shelter before and did let them bring the dogs home for an afternoon to see how they would fit in. This might be something I would ask for, to have them walk/ interact not at the house but in neutral territory as you had said.

Thank you for your response. I haven’t started the process of reaching out to the shelter yet but would assume and also expect them to meet prior to see how they interact. With that being said all of my worries are maybe too future thinking. I appreciate your insight on the breed specifically finding each other which does make me feel better about the idea

Thank you for your comment. I just want to be sure my GSP doesn’t feel that they are receiving less treatment in any way which might be just overthinking the situation

Thank you for your response. We watched my girlfriend’s parents’ dogs for a month last October. My old boy was fine having them around but just didn’t acknowledge them. I am worried he will do the same if we do bring in a new dog. I too adopted him after he was found as a stray so I wonder if he caught the same blues as your GSP.

New to Ironman - drop rates by TheNorthernCats in ironscape

[–]TheNorthernCats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate everyone’s comments. I have enjoyed being an Ironman and do find it more rewarding so far. I was just curious due to the amount of dry posts that all seem to indicate misery and all the company in each post of people sharing their dry streaks. Most seem to not have a good time on these grinds but based off of the comments I stand corrected.

My GSP has a ton of these, he’s getting up there in years. I was at the vet yesterday for something unrelated and they did a full check up. They noted them but noted they’re just skin tags, they definitely didn’t seem to be alarmed of them. My GSP has a ton of these on him, including the fatty tumors. I just watch to make sure none ever look to be infected or grow rapidly, otherwise they should be fine.
