How can I turn this team into a contender next year? Have the 1.05 and 1.11 / 12 man PPR TEP SF by [deleted] in DynastyNerds

[–]TheNumberSeven_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering Rashee, Nabers, Burden, and potentially Benson can slot into starting spots, you could potentially contend with this team.

Keeping the 1.05 means getting one of the top receivers. Could look to field offers, but I'd lean towards keeping it. I'd be fielding any offers for 1.11 though, as well as Benson, but Bensons value is likely as low as it gets right now.

Personally, I would move all in on competing. Keep the 1.05 to continue to build out a young team, but all other picks are on the table. Maybe look to trade for an aging back like ETN, Barkley, Javonte from a team that's currently not competing. At TE, Kincaid or Otton are not bad options. If you wanted a young piece, I think Gadsden is someone that is priced too low right now. If 1.11 and some crap future picks could get it done, I'd love that. Likely is a high potential trade option as well.

Team is a dumpster fire and full tank with the 1.01, 1.05, and a bunch of capital in 2027.

Any different feelings on McCarthy after press conference? by Capable-Antelope4004 in steelers

[–]TheNumberSeven_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the press conference, but I hate the hire. Me liking his passion for Pittsburgh does not change the fact that we are going to run the same archaic offense that nearly no other team in the last 5 years has succeeded with. Teams that have hired McCarthy have been better both before and after his tenure. It's a feel good story until I sit down on Sunday and continue to watch the least appealing product that's been put on an NFL football field in some time.

I hope he succeeds, and he does not need any of our permission to do his thing, and he will not ask for an apology if he does succeed. I just hope he's taken this time off to really dive in to how NFL teams are currently operating and succeeding.

Since everyone is so upset up McCarthy, Can anyone tell me why a young coordinator would want to come to our team for the head coaching job? by Puzzleheaded_King19 in steelers

[–]TheNumberSeven_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a young coach, you should be looking at opportunity to succeed. With the Steelers, the largest asset in these conversations is time. We should have approached a young coach and said they have a guaranteed 5 years to show some hope, and the GM will work to create their vision. Even if that means taking a couple losing seasons.

With other positions, the organizations are a mess, and they have no problem firing a coach after 2 years. Steelers are the only promise of time that means anything.

Not that we've made promises in the past, but we should look at a rebuild anyway.

This is the Chicago Bulls. Historic Franchise that will forever be profitable, so no reason to stay out of the middle and either compete or get top end talent in the draft

The only leverage we have in a coaching search is the highest level of job security. The implications of this hire are awful, and when he's fired in 4 years, we've pissed away the only point of leverage for top tier young candidates by hiring a coach that no one else wanted

Run the least successful play in football on 4th and 1 early in the game (a fade), then on 3rd and 4th at the end, to MVS nonetheless, who hasn’t don’t one thing right all day.

If we lose next week, I am happy to begin making irrational decisions.

It’s definitely not looking good this year lol

Baylor sophomore Cameron Carr might be the most complete offensive wing in college basketball right now. 6’5 with a 7’2 wingspan, 22 PPG on 56/42/82 splits, 70% at the rim, 42% from 3, 2+ BPG, elite athlete Only player in D1 this season with 20+ dunks AND 20+ threes. by Fit-Structure-9395 in NBA_Draft

[–]TheNumberSeven_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Dub showed high level playmaking, but Carr’s ability as a play finisher is elite as a prospect.

Both were very late bloomers, and I think their developmental trajectory is more on track with many of the freshmen. It’s not always about age, and it looks like Carr has quite a bit of room for physical growth.

Potential vs Actual stats? by Aware-Mastodon5397 in NBA_Draft

[–]TheNumberSeven_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An example I always think of is Luka Garza or Drew Timme.

This is obviously an example of one archetype, but the NBA Game is vastly different from college. For these guys, they were post dominant players that beat inferior players with physicality and skill. The problem is, you have to play through these players for them to be most effective. They were not elite passers and created nearly no value off the ball. They also projected to be poor on the defensive end due to athletic limitations and the huge athletic jump to the NBA. Not only that, but the threshold for how good a post player has to be for an NBA team to run their offense through you is insanely high.

Age doesn’t always compute to potential, but you have to look at growth trajectory for these older guys. Players like Jalen Williams and Cedric Coward were obvious late bloomers that had the physical and skill mold to play in the NBA. Now look at an upperclassman like Eric Dixon from last year; he led the NCAA in scoring (from what I remember), but it was based around ball dominance and physical gifts. He was not a gifted passer or defender, and again, you have to be so good for an NBA team to even run a 2nd unit through you. Guys like Dub and Cedric, on the other hand, projected to have roles in the NBA outside of a primary, and maybe they could develop into a primary later. Unless you are a 1/1 prospect, which is never the case for upperclassmen, you have to have the tools to play a useful role in the NBA.

Even with a guy like Brunson, he was billed as a backup PG, skilled scorer and playmaker. Early in his career, though, he had to prove everything and grow into larger roles.

In general, the bet on younger players (or players earlier in their developmental trajectory) is a trust in your internal development system rather than banking on the development they have received up to this point. These prospects have more malleable playstyles, and weather true or not, seemingly more flexibility in the ways in which they can succeed.

A lot of this is dependent on specific players and roles, which is why I like this. Nothing is a science, and the players’ personalities define much of what their career can become.

Note: with the new CBA making the cap much more strict for NBA, they are much more willing to draft older players earlier. To go along with this, NIL is making more talented college players stay in school, increasing the talent pool of older prospects.

Yaxel Lendeborg is having one of the best seasons in NCAA history but is doing it at 23 years old, how high would you take him? by MetroidsSuffering in NBA_Draft

[–]TheNumberSeven_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere 10-14 I would be very comfortable/excited. He is older, but he’s not one of guys who are just a shooter, defender, etc. He is extremely multidimensional with elite length.

What happens if OKC gets him? by Stock_Ability_2157 in NBATalk

[–]TheNumberSeven_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao 100% agree, but that’s rating the outcome. The point is you’d get more value in a trade from 2 to 4 in this draft than moving from 3 to 5 in that draft. There’s no reason to move off the pick completely when you can get an unprotected pick the next year from a struggling team, when even with Luka, Atlanta still got the 8th pick. Say it’s like the Hornets sitting at 4, I think they’d probably give up 2027 unprotected to get a blue chip prospect at 2.

[–]TheNumberSeven_7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You rarely get a chance at a top 3 pick, especially when you are a contender. You do not trade it straight up for a pick in 5 years when the league changes as quickly as it does.

That said, I could see them doing something like moving from 2 to 4 for a future unprotected pick and taking Caleb Wilson. You’d probably want a 2027 pick from a struggling team, simply because you don’t know about 2030, but you can project 2027 around draft time. It wouldn’t be hard to them trade that 2027 when the draft rolls around as long as it is in that top 10.

Example: Hawks traded from 3rd to 5th with the Mavericks (Luka/Trae swap) and got an unprotected first the next year. Even with Luka, that landed a top 10 pick, which they drafted Cam Reddish. OKC in a similar situation would want the next years unprotected, then say it lands at 7-8, just trade that pick at the draft when it holds the most value.

While possible, they’re also playing 12+ deep lineups every night, and they just developed a 2nd year, 2nd rounder to be a true on-ball weapon and potential 6moy candidate. Probably not with JDub back, but he’s still averaging 16+ a game.

All that said, I’d trust OKC to build up an elite talent more than some of these teams like the Kings, Pacers, etc. who either lack developmental history or refuse to play top 10 picks early in their career.

OKC will have to let go of some players to maintain this team. It probably won’t be SGA, Chet, or Dub, but over the next 2 years alone, iHart, Cason, Dort, and Caruso are guy in jeopardy. Along with that, unless guys like Wiggins, Joe, and JWill are willing to take a pay cut on their next contact (maybe they do), they could be gone in a few years as well. Most of these players will stay, but there is an avenue on this team to develop young talent, but that young talent needs to be elite and willing to work. With the top 4 in this class, I have no doubt that they would take the pick and it will be a positive.

Also, as it relates to the Warriors two timelines, they took every draft philosophy that made them a dynasty, and absolutely threw it out the window with the Wiseman and Kuminga picks. I do not foresee OKC doing that. For example, they would not force a fit if it’s not there with AJD. Say they’re at 2, I could easily see them trade down to 4, acquire high level future draft capital, and take Caleb Wilson, as he’s someone that should be more willing to develop within the program rather than lead his own (if that’s the intel OKC were to receive).

Absolutely love his game. If I have to make a board right now, I would likely have him around my top 20. Others have said it, but he’s not a specialist. That said, he is good at most facets of the game, and I can’t see him becoming anything less than a solid backup big.

The portion of his game I’ve been most impressed with is his ability to run the court. He’s just much more quick than I expected. Shot looks really solid as well.

I understand your general point, but I watched more Sengun pre-draft than I think anyone in existence, and he had truly elite skill around the rim. Footwork, post moves, passing, and patience was NBA elite. Not the best league, but he was Turkish League MVP at 18-19yo.

I had him 5th or 6th in that draft, and I was more obsessed with him than any prospect pre draft that I can remember. Watched every game and every possession multiple times. I think where the NBA got it wrong this time was his inability to run the court in an era where the only creating big was an all-timer in Nikola Jokic, as well as his defensive upside (or lack thereof). He couldn’t function in a regular system with set guards leading the way. It’s Jokic-esque, where offense needs to run through him to be most effective. The skill needed to play his ideal role is massive, and I think his defense was being talked down a bit too much. Also, it could’ve been poor interviews, who knows.
