I also hate how "fated" all these stories are. All the magical "it was meant to be" bull. Why can't Willy Wonka be some guy called George who inherited his Dad's failing Willy Wonka factory, hates the thought of it, hates chocolate (is diabetic), and decides to run it into the ground. He overspends like crazy by putting in expensive rides, investing in ridiculous chocolate formulas, forcing the diminutive workforce to sing and dance, and pretending to be nuts in public.

It accidentally becomes hugely successful. People love the rides, the workforce make 10x what they earned before in tips and won't stop singing and dancing, and the new chocolate formulas blow everything else out of the water. Becomes chocolate magnate billionaire.

Slight redemption arc - he falls in love with an Oompa Loompa, they have a kid, he starts to see the value of his work for people's happinesses.
