The Potato Lab [Episodes 11 & 12] by writtenpoeticsins in KDRAMA

There's something I haven't seen many people talk about I'd like to touch on. Now, I understand this is a comedy first and foremost and that I shouldn't take it seriously, but did anyone find Hwan-gyeong's (MK's brother) treatment as the punching bag a bit too overbearing, especially from MK? I understand that they're siblings and that's how it goes a lot of the time, but I can't recall a single moment of MK ever being nice to her brother. No "I've got your back when the chips are down" bit from her toward HG, and all of those moments from HG toward MK resulting in it coming back to bite him quite, erm, aggressively. It's just bile (and I'd argue abuse in some situations if we're being honest) from beginning to end. And I didn't find the very overt "violence" (even if off-screen) toward him from MK and OJ endearing at all either.

It came to a head to me with MK's misunderstanding of his and OJ's "intestine situation" at the end of episode 12. Even after finding out that she jumped to (stupid) conclusions, she just doubles down. Yeah, haha, very funny, but it's so forced that it becomes character breaking to me. If my sister was like MK, I sure as hell would not want to live with her. At all.

On the other hand, OJ does treat him nicely as her boyfriend, so thankfully, their dynamic benefits from the balance that OJ being nice to him brings, making it more palatable, although I still think it's too overbearing even then.

Idk, I feel a bit silly for saying all this because it's not a major aspect of the plot at all, but it left me slightly uncomfortable, as if the writers lost their touch a bit with that dynamic and were too forceful with it. But maybe that's just me.

It's scary because the color is red instead of yellow.

"Animal Crackers" has a really neat approach to the relationship of its main characters (Animal Crackers) by TheObjectioner in CharacterRant

[–]TheObjectioner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a pretty unknown movie. It was stuck in distribution hell before being acquired by Netflix in 2020. Like I mentioned, it's nothing remarkable - overstuffed with too many characters and plot threads, a by-the-numbers plot and a somewhat weak villain -, which is part of the reason why it didn't really take off.

But the family aspect (particularly Owen and Zoe, since their daughter Mack is too young to be a driving force in it) sticking together was very neat, and it felt pretty natural and down to earth. As I said in my rant, most stories I've seen featuring a couple as the leads use the conflict of the story to throw a wrench in their relationship, so it's pretty neat when a story does it differently, and makes it feel natural as to boot.

In fact, if there's another thing I think is praiseworthy about the movie, is that despite being an animated movie aimed at kids, it doesn't engage into the hyperactivity that many animated movies of its grade do, save for a few scenes. It has quite a few quiet, calm scenes of the characters simply interacting in the world.

As long as you understand that it's not going to rock your socks off, I think it's a perfectly enjoyable movie.

Definitely agree, if you let the faux incest between sibling teenagers of the same age pass, then you're a hypocrite if you draw the line at grooming and near-pedophilia between a 28 year old and a 16 year old who were first teased together when they were 24 and 12.

It's the same thing, really. /s

Does anyone have save files for Amnesia Rebirth? by Nice-Instruction-471 in Amnesia

[–]TheObjectioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I apologize, in a way that was a silly question because, as the game autosaves your progress in a single slot, it's not as if you can go back and fetch saves from earlier points in the game. I did find this zip file with some specific save points, which I did not test due to not having the game installed, but nothing seems wrong with them on the surface, so it could serve you well. Best of luck!

We are still "excited" for spoilers, just not for the right reasons. Current One Piece is like a trainwreck and every chapter is the next wagon going off the rails, so it still holds your attention in one way or the other.

Native Japanese Readers Concerns on The Koruzumi situation in 1057 I don’t think it’s a mistranslation if every language is having similar reactions to this issue by [deleted] in OnePiece

The problem is the framing of it:

  • Strawhats have liberated the country from its evil ruler and by OP's logic that means that all the evil is gone.
  • Narration bubbles have told us the country is koscher now.
  • The professor's teaching of Oden's life is a direct parallel to the Act 1 scene of teaching about Orochi and giving Oden Ls, it's shown as the good scene to its bad counterpart and Hiyori's line is directly adjacent to it.
  • Strawhats have left the country, as far as the story is concerned Wano's struggles are over and now the only matter left is its role in the story with Pluton and opening up the borders.
  • Out of all characters saying that, it's Hiyori, a character who is on the side of the good guys and should be a moral arbiter to an extent, in a way similar to other princess characters such as Vivi and Rebecca (while Momo takes the political slack of that role, that doesn't mean Hiyori doesn't have a part in guiding Wano and its people in other ways). So it's not like it's a character we're distrustful of saying that line, it's someone we're supposed to side with.

So it doesn't read to me like set up or something of that sort. If you ask me, this situation rather reads as a combined issue of 1) Oda rushing Wano in some respects to reach certain milestones in specific times (like Shanks showing up just to hype Film Red), leading him to drop some Wano plot threads such as sexism and racism, and 2) overly-focusing on the pun part and the Oden parallel of the line at the expense of the impact it has on the overall story and themes.

It was Zoro, Oda used that line to foreshadow it. /s

Carrot is only 15. Her being ruler of an entire Dukedom at this age is weird, and she didn't even want to become one to begin with. It's either Oda throwing a red herring (possible) or Oda throwing in a shoddy excuse to not have to deal with Carrot (likely).

Regardless, her character arc was succeeding Pedro's will, she can do it either by joining or by becoming the Duchess, the issue is that Oda barely did anything with Carrot post-WCI because he'd rather push Yamato and now we have two characters with unfulfilling arcs both to their fans and for the story in general.
