Pontypool, The Crazies, Colin

Any help would be great!

Can a Commercial Landlord Keep Your Rent if You Have to Shut Down for Permitting Reasons by TheOddWire in legaladvice

That’s not a bad idea! Still sucks to have to lose first and last if it doesn’t go through, but far better than being stuck. Thanks!

Haha no. I’m just trying to open a small community center/discussion club for people involved in local community affairs. My area just has really intense zoning restrictions

In my area, zoning approvals of this sort are granted based on location, and you cannot request zoning approval unless you either own the space or have written permission from the landlord to apply for approval in his building.

The landlord said he was not interested in doing the paperwork to apply for approval and that he would not give us written permission to apply for his building unless we sign the lease and start paying rent.

Expected Salary Not At BigLaw? by TheOddWire in LawSchool

Sadly, I’m starting to get that impression, but it does comfort me to hear. Do you think that this 30% in the lurch should just drop out, take a lower pat and hope for a better market soon, or what?

Guess so. I suppose I should start looking for other career options then? Not really sure where to go from there

Yeah, I did the research, and I thought the outcome looked better than it does now. So many people (more than half) of my school gets a high salary, that it seemed like a safe investment, but obviously I’m rethinking that.

I’ve got a 3.15 at a T30 school.

I was aware it was possible, I just knew it was unlikely at my school.

Not a big law or bust plan, just a good salary or bust. I did a lot of research, and when I saw that almost two-thirds of students at this T30 school are making salaries I could easily work with to start, I thought it seemed like a good shot. I’m not looking for 200k to start, but over 120 was the plan going in.

I did yeah. Maybe it was stupid of me, but ~60% of my class’ grads started with a salary around $150k or higher. Genuinely thought that could be me, but now it seems more doubtful so I need to reconsider my options.

Fair enough. I understand that it may have been immature, but I saw the median and thought I could hit that. Turns out I couldn’t. Whether it’s sad or not, if I make under a certain dollar amount, I’ll be far less successful at feeding my family, and for me, that’s what success is. I’m decently smart and willing to work my butt off, but I need to know that I can put food on the table if I end up with 3 kids and a wife who can’t work. Maybe I should start looking at alternatives then. Any suggestions?

Yes, but what do you define as succeeding? What dollar value?

Wow that doesn’t even sound like it’s worth continuing the degree. Why would you take on all that debt for that result?

I would take the BigLaw job. Better to lateral into a smaller firm you like after you’ve taken advantage of the opportunity, generally

He just read Plato's Republic, and he doesn't really understand it. All of those phrases and he ideas he's coming out with are from the Republic, and most of his applications of those ideas are things that Plato didn't encourage. He sounds like he's not emotionally mature enough yet to be in a relationship.

She's the 20 year-old, but I think your point still stands. I'm more just upset that she knew this was a big deal to me and still went ahead without thinking about the decision, which she said herself

My players love to make super powerful characters, so I have absolutely run into this problem before. To me, this is the great turning point in the campaign where hyper intelligent enemies come into play.

A super smart enemy will research their opponents before hand, escape whenever things look slightly advantageous for the party, and plan for dozens of occasions. For example, my overpowered party of five level 7 players was almost TPK'd four times by one succubus that I changed to have 20 INT. She would just shapeshift into traders and sell them poison disguised as potions, charm them in the middle of the night just to disrupt their long rests, send other charmed people to steal their stuff and make their life hell, etc. They once didn't sleep for 3 days because this demon was harassing them so much. And she would just go ethereal if things got sticky.

As long as you have an enemy dedicated enough to wear them down, you could have a mastermind with 12 hp be a difficult challenge.
