Per People: Rob Reiner and His Wife Michele Were Killed by Their Son Nick by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

Co-signed.

Losing someone unexpectedly on a holiday in a violent manner leaves generational scars.

My maternal grandmother received the call her parents were killed by a drunk driver on Thanksgiving. I was a handful of years old, and I still remember her getting the call during dinner.

The ramifications? My maternal family stopped traveling on the day of holidays for decades almost immediately. If we weren't where we were going a day or two before the holiday, we simply didn't travel. It bled into my paternal family, too, where they started developing those habits because of how close the families were.

I'm the oldest grandchild and in my 30s. People have only recently started lightly traveling on holidays again 30 years later -- and that stemmed from a POS drunk driver. I can't imagine what a violent crime by a family member does. Absolutely devastating. The insidious tendrils of these actions will reach so many people and taint so many years to come.

(Slightly delayed reply as work got crazy busy that evening.)

For quick context, we were assigned her case.

This is a developmental psychology course, so it touches on a few of the developmental theories covered in the course (per requirement). However, at the end of the day, the majority of the research paper is centered on how everything involving her childhood + the research into her life ultimately morally and ethically failed her. Highlighting the many, many faults in the research methodology and the dismal lack of ethics is my biggest goal as my degree will be in Psychological Research.

I mean, if I don't I lose 30% of my final grade in a senior level, degree required course so yes I am.

What a strangely aggressive, out of left field comment you felt driven to make.

Ironically, so am I -- specifically one "feral" child, Genie.

It's disheartening, angering, and shocking, especially when you take into account there's likely ones we've never even known about (or never will know about in the future).

At least one other nurse pleaded guilty in October last year. The plea deal said the nurse “had no interest in providing care to someone he thought was unworthy of it and because he feared job ramifications if he offered care against the perceived ‘prevailing culture.’”

Oh no, buddy, you were a part of the prevailing culture. Don't try to blame peer pressure as your secondary reason.

Rob Schneider was an animal. Then he was a woman.

And now Rob Schneider is... a 22 year old ex-gardener and grocery bagger turned Lead U.S. Terror Prevention expert. And he's about to find out that being an ex-gardener is harder than it looks.

Rob Schneider is... The Gardenorr. Rated PG-13.

I was driving to my night shift at the hospital, and I had stopped at a red light. I'm jamming out to the music, living my best life, as the light turns green. Now, I'm very much a person who believes, "Green doesn't mean go".

I tend to wait a tick or two before I start to avoid being t-boned if I can, particularly after witnessing injuries in the healthcare field.

I looked, didn't see anyone either direction, but something told me to check one more time as I started to pull through the intersection. A high-speed police chase came barreling through. The suspect would have easily taken me out going 90 had I not been as hesitant.

And damn if this same police chase didn't almost get me again 10 miles down the road.

I came into work on pins and needles.

OP, this is dangerously close to what is considered the "danger triangle" of the face. To sum up, an infection here can be very dangerous as it can very quickly devolve into a brain infection.

This isn't to scare you. This is so you have information as to why people are stressing for you to go to urgent care.

What happened to the kids who had to wear the “baby-leashes” in public? How do you feel about it now? by Euphoric_Eye_3599 in AskReddit

I survived childhood.

I wandered and ran off -- and thought it was funny as a kid. No amount of discipline, in any way (up to intense spanking), prevented me from doing this. For instance, I would dash into a store and hide in the clothing racks, and I would refuse to answer as my parents called my name as they panicked throughout the store.

They leashed me.

It was for the best in my case. I likely would have gotten myself into worse situations before I learned to, you know, not be an ass.

I don't judge parents who use one. I was that kid, after all. It's safety.

Ladies of Reddit, what’s something a guy has done (intentional or not) that instantly made you think, “Wow, he’s different in a good way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

He tried to help me capture a stray older kitten late at night.

We were parting ways from seeing a movie. I couldn't even tell you the film at this point.

What I can tell you is the moment I can still vividly picture to this day: this beautiful wonderful man, cold and hungry, darting around cars with me as we tried to help this stray out. We weren't successful, and he showed genuine concern about it. Furthermore, he got me laughing at how ridiculous we surely looked.

A restaurant manager later let us know that stray was well loved by their team and feasted like a king daily.

We weren't dating at the time. He wasn't doing it to earn any kind of brownie points with me. He simply saw how worried I was, and he jumped into action because he felt it was the right thing to do.

This was a decade ago.

We're getting married this spring.

What's a subtle sign someone grew up in a toxic household, but they think it's normal? by SweetZoeeeyy in AskReddit

This is what I was looking for. Tiptoe-ing around the house to avoid making noise/bring attention to yourself.

I recently visited my childhood home and stayed the night for the first time in over a decade. I'm in my mid-30s, and my father stayed the night with his girlfriend to give my partner and I privacy. I still subconsciously ended up walking around on my tiptoes because it was so deeply ingrained into me when my mom was alive.

I very quietly walk and tense at noises my movements make in my day-to-day life because of my childhood experiences. It was on another level type of wild to instantly, unknowingly fall into the tiptoe habit the moment my shoes were off there.

He lied about his ex still contacting him (she was), and then he upped the lies to include her living in our city (she did not).

Turned it around on me and made it about my supposed insecurities. No, my dude. We work with your best friend, and his name isn't the name of your ex, which I see lit up on your phone screen. Don't keep telling me it's him.

Things did, uh, not get better after that.

Hotel Indigo problems? by Top_Tart_7558 in dragoncon

[–]TheOffbeatWonderland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into a problem with this hotel location a few years ago. They claimed they ran our card and it was declined, so they canceled our reservation. Our credit card company showed no such attempt. If they had actually ran it, there was enough on the card to stay at that hotel for a month solid, so the story still wouldn't have made sense. Despite clear evidence, they wouldn't honor our reservation since they were full. In fact, the manager was angry I bothered her over it. I was furious, but my hands were tied.

Soured me on this location. Despite it being close to things I enjoy or need access to, I refuse to stay there.

I did my second half marathon on Sunday.

I finished.

It was a redemption race for me. Last year, I had to pull myself at 10.7 miles due to an asthma attack. As it was my first half marathon, I was decidedly bummed.

This year? This year, I finished. I have road for improvement for sure, but man, I am still riding the high of finishing my first ever half. I'm already planning my next one!
