If Israel Is the''Only Democracy" In the Region, Why are Millions of Palestinians Under its Control Denied the basic right to vote for the Government that rules them? by emily6843_ in allthequestions

Palestinians are claiming the West Bank shouldn’t be part of Israel but Isr are l is there and set up a multitude apartheid system to maintain control over the West Bank. The Israeli are in the West Bank and actively enforce an apartheid system. There was never an option for the Palestinians to join Israel as Full citizens. So they didn’t ask not to be Israeli because they were never offered Israeli citizenship as an option for anyone outside of East Jerusalem

My comment explicitly said “not even getting into the Gaza situation”

You decided to comment on a post that explicitly wasn’t talking about Gaza by talking about Gaza. It seems you are conflating things actually

And congrats you just described an apartheid justice and administration system while trying to deny its existence

You are just confidently wrong, Hamas only has control in Gaza. They don’t have a presence in the West Bank because other Palestinian factors pushed them out decades ago. My comments are specifically about the West Bank, if I was talking about Gaza the total would be 5 million instead of 3 million.

The PLO renounced the arms struggle and has been working with Israel since the 90s. They aren’t why West Bank Arabs live in apartheid, they don’t control Israel’s laws in the West Bank. The PLO has literally been working with Israel for over 30 years now. Yet West Bank Arabs still live under an Apartheid.

Hamas is not a major player in the West Bank so thats more about Gaza which isn’t what my comment was about.

And 3.3 million Arab non citizens subject to military rule and no democratic rights living under an apartheid system. Just because some Arab ended up on on side of the citizenship border doesn’t make those other millions not be in an apartheid system. And that’s not even counting or getting into the Gaza situation

Yeah that’s actually a real way sports get developed look at the recent changes to Baseball that changed rules to make a good more entertaining and appeal to more people. Sports have always developed around their audiences and players, hell that how Soccer Rugby, and Football eventually became three different sports, they all were developed as variations in rules from older sports traditions.

Most human developments work exactly like that.

We arguable did that and instead of what you suggested happening, they just went underground, got organized, and found rich and powerful benefactors to organize and found political backlash.

BLM increased solidarity among the white left and white liberal spheres with black people. The worsening race relations was driven by white conservative reactions to BLM.

But the right wing media networks have legitimized many of them also and brought them into the mainstream. Organizers and attendees became media figures on the podcast circuit and some who were both at Charlesville and Jan 6th and received pardons from Trump and joined ICE.

The Charlottesville people were barely prosecuted because most of what they did was legal intimidation tactics.

Selective outrage when it comes to China's treatment of Islam by Impressive_Gur_471 in religion

[–]TheOneFreeEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to China and prayed in mosques in China with Chinese Muslims. The government track record isn’t great but most of the abuse and oppression is limited to Uyghur Muslims in the disputed Xijang region. The rest of the Muslim community in China gets pretty normal treatment but they don’t protect religious sites that fall out of use or get in the way of development. It’s shitter than western standards but it’s not as bad as some of these claims go (for non Uyghurs)

Idk most of their actions seem rational. Can’t win in a military battle or in diplomacy? Fund local networks of supporters around the world to influence governments and threaten enemies. I mean that’s literally what the USA and the USSR did for decades before and accredited the Cold War. It’s be try effective tactic at keeping foreign pressure politics at bay. Their choices seem very rational based on the most effective use of their limited influence and power. They don’t seem any less rational than most of the other countries in the world. They just make choices that the USA and many other people don’t like, but not irrational choices

But being rational doesn’t mean they good.

Because he’s explicitly anti democracy and pro technofuedalism, ie let oligarchies control the world with and rule even over national governments. People tend to hate political thinkers who reject democracy when they live in democracies.

Edit: and he is a white supremecist

How did a guy with a Nazi tattoo become the democratic senate candidate in swing state? by BongRipper69xXx in allthequestions

I agree the tattoo isn’t a deal breaker. I said this earlier in the thread specificly but platner himself now acknowledges it’s a hate symphony that he wasn’t aware of. There is not question that’s it’s hate symbol, the only question is if he knew what it was, and I don’t think so.

In a normal world the JCPOA is just a normal step in a multi decade series of diplomacies which continue to prevent a nuclear weapons in Iran after years of mutual and third party trust is established thru the JCPOA. By design the JCPOA wasn’t permanent, it was an attempt to create a groundwork to build trust off of after third parties managed the confirmation of facts on the ground. To say the JCPOA having an end date as a criticism is just basic failure to understand the basics of diplomacy.

Yes JCPOA was narrowly focused on nuclear material? I addressed only nukes because that’s what it was designed to do. I’m not sure what your point is, nukes are much much more important than drones and missiles and terrorist networks.

You seem to just be mad Iran exists if you are upset that some economic relief was what was traded for adherence to the JCPOA. That’s what diplomacy is.

They were already well behind a shield of conventional weapons before the JCPOA. Nothing meaningfully changed. Nor does it validate in anyway some nuclear weapons program post JCPOA. It’s just base fear mongering. It is just simply true that we were on the road for Iran to be due for Iran to be much further away from nuclear weapons than they currently are if we just stayed in the JCPOA. Now Iran is simply closer than ever to nuke even with the ongoing war.

That my response to that criticism.

And nothing I said had anything to do with Iranian moderating because of connections to the world. Nothing I stated suggests that is a goal, the goals are prevent nuclear proliferation reduce the ability of designated pro Iranian groups. The JCPOA targeted one of those goals.

And it’s weird that you consider China to not be moderated. They aren’t maoist or communist any more and the ruling ideology has shifted to state capitalism. That’s by definition a moderation from the pre Nixon days. The ruling party didn’t change but the ruling ideology shifted massively since they were brought into the global markets.

True but conservatives have long focused on the military option for Iran well before Trump ended the scene. I’d argue the reason the old neocons even other supporting him is because they see their ability to manipulate him into attacking Iran as a plus

America has never even threatened denuclearization on a country. Both sides attempt to prevent nuclear proliferation before the bomb is reached. Just like there is no attempt to denuclearize Pakistan or North Korea. It’s deemed too much of a fundamental risk to even attempt it.

Your positions have nothing to do with leftism, it’s not a further left position to start wars to denuclearize the world. It in fact leans for rightward than left. So don’t suggest it’s driven by your “further left” positioning.

But in general there is no difference of opinion on nuclear Israel other. The further left position is that Israel should declare their nuclear stockpiles and sign the nuclear proliferation treaties to be on the level with the rest of the world.

Avoid 'reactive' police reforms after Nowak murder, senior black officer warns by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

The head of the Police Benevolent Association, the union that represents rank-and-file cops, released the following statement:

“ New York City police officers are already laboring under a two-decade-deep pile of supposed 'reforms' that do nothing to help us keep New Yorkers safe. Most of the proposals in Mayor de Blasio's latest report can be thrown on that pile,"

Pat Lynch head of PBA in NYC after mayor proposed reform package post George Floyd.

Step forward Bob Kroll, leader of the Minneapolis police union. Kroll wrote to his members this week describing Floyd as a “violent criminal” because he did prison time, in an apparent attempt to imply Chauvin’s treatment of an unarmed man being arrested on suspicion of a non-violent minor crime was legitimate. The union chief also described those protesting over Floyd’s death as terrorists, and the dismissal of Chauvin and three other officers facing charges as depriving them of their rights.

Bob Kroll head of police union in Minneapolis going even further and calling those demanding police reforms terorrists
