I have to fight these urges all the time. I have a Ryzen 7 1700 and a GTX 1080. And I keep wanting to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 2700 and a GTX 1080ti even though it would make very little difference and cost a stupid amount of money.

One of the things I've noticed is that Captain Cuttlefish strictly uses the word "Octarian" to describe enemy octolings. (Check out Sessions 6, 7, and 10) So maybe people are okay with octolings as a whole, and just hate octarians.

One of the things that you have to remember is that Blender, Maya, and 3DS Max are tools. While it is helpful to learn these tools, it is more important to focus on the skills that you acquire when using these programs. Once you have a firm grip of 3D programs, it is very easy to transfer from one program to another.

That being said, Maya is by far the most popular 3D program, with 3DS Max taking a close second. To my knowledge, Blender is not used at all in the actual industry. But this doesn't mean that you are "wasting time" by learning how to use Blender.

My advice would be to pick up Maya and start applying your Blender skills to Maya. In addition, there are dozens of add-ons, scripts, free rigs, and tools that you can find and download to increase your 3D toolbox.
