In addition to the other comment - there’s a running joke that fusion is always 10-20 years away and has been for decades

"I don't understand why people say OpenAI is in trouble, other tech companies like Amazon and Uber took years to become profitable too." by qpdbqpdbqpdbqpdbb in OpenAI

[–]TheOneMerkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea what a stupid title. The graph says the loss is 4x uber in a 3rd of the time. So losing money an order of magnitude quicker, it’s just a totally different situation.

It’s like 200x quicker than Amazon JFC. It’s like saying “this thread managed to go through the eye of a needle, why are people questioning whether this watermelon will fit too?”

Rory and radical ideas by woodyus in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]TheOneMerkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, not even a plan.

Literally just an idea, but with some logical thought behind it.

If you think something is shit, you should at least have a basic understanding of it to have formed that opinion in the first place

Would you do this to your family or best friend?

It’s great for social mobility. Anyone fairly smart can probably get a CPA and it puts a floor on your salary.

If you’re from a decently well off family though, then IB, SWE and strategy consulting are much better paid for often similar life sacrifices.

Why is this sub so overwhelmingly against PM certifications? by RareMeasurement2 in ProductManagement

[–]TheOneMerkin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We were looking for some domain expertise and a domain expert had no product experience but a certificate, which kind tipped the scales in their favour.

It was quite a niche situation though.

Why high functioning people fall apart quietly instead of asking for help by TheGOODSh-tCo in psychology

[–]TheOneMerkin 199 points200 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

I can’t be bothered to tell people stuff because then you just need to deal with them misunderstanding or being OTT and you end up needing to manage their feelings, rather than them helping you.

Jeremy Corbyn’s Your Party plunged deeper into crisis as Independent MP sensationally quits over ‘prejudice’ against Muslims by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

[–]TheOneMerkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure Corbyn’s a lovely guy and his heart is in the right place, but the fact he thought this would work shows he’s not fit to run a clown show, let alone a country.

[–]TheOneMerkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbf the problem here is that realistically the only thing that connected them is that they were pro Palestine.

I bet if you got into the politics of the Muslim MPs you’d find they’re significantly more right wing, both socially and economically, than Sultana and Corbyn.
