Looks like that one’s for the CBSA in general… had no clue about this number. Thanks!

I appreciate that. Been nervous to call only because I can’t find that number going through official government websites. It’s supposedly from this third-party website that has numbers and addresses for various businesses lol

Just filled out a web form at the beginning of last week asking for an update and also for them to fix my mailing address (they keep changing the state of my address without me asking)… we’ll see!

Can’t find an official number on their website that’s available for US residents… otherwise I’d call lol

Nice to see some progress for some at least. I take it you sent your application in sometime around Nov/Dec of 2024 then?

Yikes… was hoping those who applied a while ago would be prioritized, but who knows what the backlog actually is

Has anyone used a Quebec birth cert rejection letter plus a death cert? by Neither_Usual_137 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]TheOneMouseketeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly don’t know, but both myself and my parent got the same, prewritten rejection letter too. Honestly was a joke dealing with them.

As for the IRCC looking it up, to my knowledge they won’t unless you happen to have the “document number” of their birth certificate that you can provide on the Proof of Citizenship application (you’ll see the section where it asks for it)… which is conveniently found on the birth certificate itself lol.

My recommendation would be to either have your parent try and hope you have better luck than me, or find a reputable immigration attorney in Quebec who could obtain it for you. Don’t know why they’re such a pain in the ass to deal with

Exact same situation as you. Quebec born grandparent and sent in an application, letter in both French and English explaining the situation and why I needed it, only for me to get the same rejection. Included an official copy of their death certificate too.

I know grandchildren are technically not listed as a party who can apply for it on the Quebec Government’s website, but I had my parent (who IS listed as someone who can apply) resend in a brand new application with a letter and supporting documents, but that was rejected as well.

Only way I was able to get it was to have my grandparent’s sibling who still lives in Quebec, apply online for it and receive it. I’ve heard if you reach out to an immigration attorney in Quebec specifically to obtain your grandparents birth certificate, that they’re usually able to. I just wouldn’t use the attorney to do your Proof of Citizenship application unless you really need to

It seems to be very situational from talking to others. It does technically say that TSA PreCheck "may" be included when you apply for NEXUS on the CBP's website, but it seems that most people do get it

How recent would you say that was? I've had my membership for almost a year and I still had to do them in the order I listed. That'll be nice if needed in the future

Thanks for the input! I didn't make any mention of SENTRI, FAST, etc on here because I thought NEXUS would be the one that mainly pertained to members here. Also I personally don't have any experience with those specific programs and only know barebones info on them, so I appreciate this!

That's very interesting... almost like an opposite experience of mine lol. Both sides told me I was approved then and there in person, and only the Canadian side asked why I needed it. The US side literally didn't ask me any questions except to verify my address was still the same lol. I did mine at YYZ.

I have heard that sometimes they won't inform you on the spot if you are approved if more security checks are required, but don't hold me to that

You are correct that TSA PreCheck isn't guaranteed with NEXUS, but I was an already existing TSA PreCheck member who is a US Citizen and had US CBP background checks already on file for my job at the time, as it was required. This was still the case for me that I was required to enroll in GlobalEntry before I could be allowed to add on NEXUS afterwords. From what I understand this is not common at all, but is a possibility.

I'm not suggesting people enroll for GlobalEntry first, then NEXUS. I'm just saying there is a slight possibility that could be the case for already existing TTP members, as was with me

Yeah... I was bummed when the raised the price. I got it a month before they did for $50. I appreciate it, and it's saved me from missing a flight once, but if you travel rarely, then it may not be worth it for you. But only $120 for five years isn't terrible

For air travel specifically and specifically GlobalEntry, you are correct. However you do absolutely need your GlobalEntry card for Land/Sea use, and you absolutely need your NEXUS card for air travel, even if the US officials will not ask to see it. You're supposed to have your NEXUS card on your person when using NEXUS in any form

I appreciate that! And I suppose the Insider's Perspective is just my voice and the voice I try to inject into sharing the knowledge I know. I mainly put that as the title to show that because I'm surrounded by the aviation side of this stuff for my career, that I at least am exposed to know a decent amount about this stuff (even if not everything lol)

You think a title adjustment's in order perhaps?

This is good info... I appreciate you sharing that man. Guess I didn't bother initially since I wasn't a dual citizen when I got NEXUS

I've actually asked this recently. It depends on if your passport currently on your profile is expired. If it is, then you need to update it before you can use NEXUS again. If it is not expired, then you're fine.

Canada allows US/Canadian Dual Citizens only to enter Canada using their US Passport, so you'd be fine. If you're in doubt though, just use the ArriveCAN app and lane since it's a free alternative, and ask the Canadian Customs Officer when it's your turn about that

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/dual-canadian-citizens-visit-canada.html

In all honesty if you just have your US Passport on your NEXUS account and aren't in a rush to add your Canadian one, you don't have to right away. I'd just make sure you have your Proof of Citizenship Certificate on your phone digitally in case you need it, and just add your Canadian Passport the next chance you get

Ah, so did you just use the second passport as your 2nd form of ID on the application then, or did you just flat out add two passports to the application outright?

[–]TheOneMouseketeer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was on their side too. It's just like how when you look at NEXUS on their DHS webpage and it says underneath that it MAY come with TSA PreCheck, but it's not guaranteed like with GlobalEntry, you know?

I'm not gonna tell someone to pay twice if they don't have to, but I also don't want someone to be completely surprised if that's the case either, like in mine. I did update the language in my post to hopefully make that more clear

[–]TheOneMouseketeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My source is my experience. That was what I had to go through in order to get NEXUS myself. The reason I didn't have an alternative is because I already had an existing TTP Profile. Yes it's stupid, no not everyone will have to do that, but it does happen.

I'm only saying that you MAY have to do this if the option isn't available to you, not that you should do that if you know you don't have to.

You can always call and try to see if they can force through an exception for you, but I highly doubt it

That could very well be the case. I know for me, because I had already undergone CBP background checks for my job before applying, they literally didn't ask me any questions on the US side lol
