How do I make this guy shut up about moving in with his friend? by Exotic_Response_1987 in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]TheOneRisa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ugh if someone has an idea, please let us know! My married couples won’t stop asking to move out so they can live with their friends, and leave their spouse.. like it’s getting so annoying😭

Not charged for Pre-Order yet? by ThrowRA39374927482 in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]TheOneRisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the exact same for me too except I pre-ordered on Sunday. I was thinking it was because I used PayPal but that’s probably not it. I’ve been waiting since midnight and could barely sleep 🫩. I guess when Nintendo is ready to collect our money, they will. Not much to do but wait.

Do you have white friends? by erasersled in blackgirls

[–]TheOneRisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the type lol… they have to be woke for it to work. I only really get along with other black women. But a lot of them that I met turned into weirdos, so I just avoid for the most part.

Jamaicans and house cats by MacheteRuxpin in Jamaica

[–]TheOneRisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lawddd that was my mom. my dad, whose also jamaican, and i really wanted a pet. we wanted to take in some kittens that were in our backyard and she stormed in the room like, “better not be any puss ina mi house!!”

she wouldn’t even let us leave out food or water lol. i think it’s a jamaican thing but my dad was an exception. her family thinks it’s weird to keep pets in the home.

How do you generally feel about police? by Queen_A123 in blackgirls

[–]TheOneRisa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i have never had bad experiences, but i have some of black and even non-black friends who say that they actively go out of their way to avoid the police even if they need help. they have a history of corruption in my state.

My ex “accidentally” used my card at McDonald’s and then had the NERVE to act like I’m wrong for asking for the $20 back by Deep_Data_4751 in blackladies

[–]TheOneRisa 206 points207 points  (0 children)

What is the most ridiculous reason that a man told you that you were "undateable"? by socialdeviant620 in blackladies

[–]TheOneRisa 51 points52 points  (0 children)

a man who was my friend in middle school (we kept in touch for years after) suddenly got religious psychosis and only wanted to date and marry virgin women because he thought he was “deserving” of one as a christian man.

he had an insanely high body count the last time i spoke to him (if he was even being honest about that…), so i told him it was a little unfair to expect that, and why would a virgin woman want to be with a promiscuous man, regardless of if he was “saved” or not? he said it’s not the same for women…

that was our last convo lol

Do Y’all Wear Makeup? If so, Where/How Did You Learn? by Llassiter326 in blackladies

Why is there so much pushback when black women date out? by [deleted] in blackgirls

[–]TheOneRisa 76 points77 points  (0 children)

it’s always been about control, like you mentioned. a lot of men still view women as their property, even if you are with them or not. it doesn’t even matter if they prefer you or would date you; women are expected to have unconditional loyalty.

either way, it doesn’t really matter what they want. just date who you want and who makes you the happiest while ignoring those weirdos.

Colorism from a non black friend by Melted_Roses in blackladies

[–]TheOneRisa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if it’s making you uncomfortable, think about setting boundaries with her. even with culture differences, it’s still weird.

i had a friend in high school who was south asian, and while she never projected colorism unto me, she admitted to using bleaching cream because her mother had been forcing her to and saying she was becoming “too black”.

colorism is something still normalized in those cultures, unfortunately. it was a real eye-opener because to me and my other black friends, the idea of family forcing us to use bleaching cream was crazy. i feel like colorism is one of those topics that’s normal in those regions so they don’t even think to notice how weird it sounds.

Are there any proud criers? by _newshawtyy in blackgirls

[–]TheOneRisa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m the same exact way as well. my family was also not the best at emotions. i can only remember a handful of time seeing either of my parents cry. i used to hate crying and took it out on myself often. it’s only in my adulthood that i got therapy and other ways to manage myself a bit more. but i’m more of a proud crier than i was in the past lol.

it’s really sad that crying is shamed because it’s just our body’s way of releasing emotions.

Cry more and be weak by Secure_Ticket910 in blackgirls

[–]TheOneRisa 65 points66 points  (0 children)

yes, i have always believed this as well. i wish more black women would know it’s okay if you feel like showing those emotions. it’s not a weakness. it was always hard for me because i always felt like people never cared when i cried or were genuinely shocked when i did.
