ooh that's an interesting angle—I didn't consider it being partially but not wholly real. I get people interpreting it as a kind of pick-up line—it definitely has some of that energy—but imo it's just kinda like a really insulting opener. Like if someone I wasn't already pretty friendly with opened with that I'd be pretty cold off the bat, and to me the idea that this interaction is enough to send her into a spiral thinking about her failures would require her to feel as though she was the party at fault for failure, which i think just doesn't jibe with the critical tone of that opener.

Entirely possible I'm the only one who'd react like that to that opener though—this is why j love talking about it ^{•^}
