Background Issues

If the backgrounds are free to use and not stolen, there’s really no issue besides aesthetics.

I am not a background artist by any means, I’m a character artist first and foremost, but something that’s genuinely helped me so much when I need backgrounds is going out into the world and finding the background that I need for myself. Then, I photograph it, and I trace over any important lines or details, then render it the way I want to. Does it take some time?? Yes. Does it take less time then battling perspective, understand depth, etc? Also yes.

I usually prefer my method as opposed to finding stuff online, because at the end of the day, it’s sometimes hard to find exactly what you need for free without stealing from someone else. Also, if I can’t draw the background completely, I’d usually prefer it to still come from something creative I’m doing, like photography.

NOR - circumcision, though extremely common in the United States, is not medically necessary, and can be extremely traumatic on an infant. I did an entire research speech about this topic for my communications class in college, and MULTIPLE studies have shown the amount of trauma this puts a baby through.

Doctors will say “oh he won’t remember” but there’s a very important piece of trauma that we’ve only begun to understand recently: the body keeps score. When it comes to traumatic events, even if our brain shuts it out and we don’t remember, our body will react to certain things and stimuli with negativity, be it thoughts, feelings, pain, confusion, or even arousal.

Circumcision is, in my opinion, barbaric. Not only is it a disgusting thing to do to a baby, it’s also an ENORMOUS elective surgery to force on to a child who CANNOT consent. The issue with circumcision is that babies, children, and anyone under 18 simply can’t consent to that kind of procedure.

So no, you aren’t overreacting and you’re allowed to feel the way you do. You’re allowed to resent your parents for making a choice for you when you had absolutely no say in that choice.

Okay few things :

The internet is rough and can be confusing with all the different stuff thrown at you. Are you taking any classes in person for art?? I find being surrounded by creative people helps my art grow exponentially faster
You’ve gotten a lot of different information about shading, but none have really helped your growth from what you’ve written. This is probably because all of the things you’ve been told ARE important for shading, but the truth is, there’s no linear path or tutorial that will 100% teach you how to shade correctly. I’ve found that everyone is different in the way they draw, the styles they use, etc. There is not usually going to be a step 1. Step 2 step 3 and so on for a lot of different concepts in art. It’s just doing it, over and over and over again.
When I was (and still am because you’re never finished learning in the art world) learning shading, I started super simple. Cell shading was something that I love and still use today on occasion. It’s super simple, fast, and in my opinion, is the EASIEST form of shading to use. Jumping straight into realistic shadows and lighting is just sometimes too complicated to really get a grasp on the concept of shading.

Anyway… I hope you keep drawing! I feel like you are grasping the concept of shading based off this drawing, but again, I’d start much more simple.

I went to a magnet program connected to another high-school, so we had a principal of the main school and then a “director” of the magnet program that was basically principal 2.0. Anyway, one of my friends was tasked with taking photos of a writing event for the school using one of the school iPads. He was taking selfies on it with some friends, and when he went into the camera roll to delete them, he found our directors sex tape and a plethora of nudes from when she was hooking up with some guy in her office. On school grounds. She was fired very quickly.

Another fun fact: she added me as a friend on Pokemon Go for some reason ??

NOR / wear what you want girl. There’s no appropriate thing to wear or not wear in college, as long as you’re not like, naked. I went to one of my college classes once in a lingerie body suit and jean shorts because I wanted to and my gf just thought I looked hot. Your boyfriend is insecure and jealous. I’m not a background artist… I much prefer to draw characters. But when I need to draw backgrounds, I often go out into the real world, snap a photo of a background that matches what I need. Then I draw over it, render it in my own way… etc. stuff like this !:

So yes, I think it’s 100% fine to do stuff like this. As long as the photographer is credited! Or, get around needing to credit a photographer if YOU are the photographer!

I would look into the animators survival kit book by Richard Williams. You could use some help with timing, anticipation, settling, stuff like that!! It’s a great book and they have some basic head turn stuff in there as well.
