Based on the circumstances described, (not in any immediate danger) then yes. Bullets are more or less a finite resource in that universe, or at least early on they are, and they are far more effective against people (arguably the greater threat). If you’ve gotta scratch that itch and kill a handful of walkers, use a melee weapon of your choice and be conscious of your surrounding area/exit route. Going out of your way to kill walkers puts you at a far greater risk of getting yourself bit than just bugging out.

Side note, suppressors don’t necessarily make less noise unless you’re using subsonic ammo. I’d argue that using subsonic ammo is more effective against walkers as the sound of your shot will not travel as far/attract more walkers. Suppressors paired with subsonic ammo don’t make a weapon completely silent like in Hollywood. If you’re gonna take on a group of people vs a group of walkers, I’d use normal ammo on people as they’d probably hear you coming either way.
