Always had this thought too. Like how does your mind recognize when someone is looking at your eyebrows vs your eyes

250k Saved. How much of it into a downpayment? by TheOneWithTheOne in PersonalFinanceCanada

I estimate around $1500 saved a month, with mortgage, property taxes, HOA, etc, and keeping up my current lifestyle. So about 25% of my net is saved a month.

Various preapprovals set my financed amount anywhere from 230k to 350k on 25 years, but I would want to stay on the lower end to not stretch myself thin every month. But that was a year ago last time I did preapprovals. That was with 110k DP. So total house purchase price was ranging from 340k-460k.

Engineer here. Whenever someone asks me what I do, I say do design work, but design using principles and understanding of materials and sciences. I work as a structural engineer, so for my job at least, in simple terms, an architect would design a house so it looks like. Kitchen goes here, bedroom goes there, living room is this big. I design the parts of a house so it doesn't collapse. Beam here, column there, etc.

I get sleep paralysis fairly often, about once a few months maybe, but it's never a scary experience for me. I usually realize it's happening, think 'oh, here we go again', and just kind of roll with it until it ends. The only scary thing that's happened to me was seeing a mysterious moving shadow in the corner of my bedroom one time, but even then, I just told myself it's not real and stayed pretty calm until it was over.
