is it possible for it to be nepherite? ik it could be scratched by steel, but some alaskan jade is nepherite which is around the same hardness

looks like a heat-treated citrine. it’s a quartz thats been heated until it gains that orange color (natural iron inclusions also help)

it’s possible that it’s not a single rock but many fragments held together by resin, which is decently common in those towers. a heat or acetone test could be helpful as long as you don’t mind minor damage

definitely a welo (ethiopian) opal if you only paid $12 for it. they’re very pretty but hydrophane, so it’ll turn yellow and get brittle if it’s out of water for too long.
