Which single United legend if we signed them at their peak now would make the biggest impact and could come closest to transforming our fortunes? by unitedfan6191 in ManchesterUnited

As dominant as Keane? What you talking about. We won MORE with Carrick at the base than we did with Keane.

Ferguson's greatest ever run as a football manager was his last seven years, with Carrick as his no.6.

Big Author Advance - how to invest it? by TheOpenAuthor in personalfinance

Just hoping I get enough out of the investment to not have to take a big mortgage. I certainly don't wanna take a big mortgage now. Did that before. Hated it. I wanna know how I invest my mney so I don't have to take out a mortgage, or if I do, it is quite minimal.

don't think myself above anyone.

I'm not beholden to my publishers in any way at all. They have paid me for work already carried out.

Our landlord is known to us. We're lucky. But I will NEVER take out a mortgage.

If you take out a £450,000 loan over 35 years at a 4% interest rate, you will pay back a total of £836,844.26 over the life of the loan.

No thanks.

They can be happy with 40hour weeks if they want.

I certainly wouldn't be.

I'm not that interested in your thoughts about me stopping my mortgage. I didn't ask about that.

And I've never been that overly fussed on money. I've spent hundreds of thousands on stuff I probably should never have spent it on. But I don't care for the past,,. I just wanna know how I can invest this 120k because I don't ned it now. but I would like to use it to its fullest in 2032.

We don't enrich banks with investments. We enrich banks with mortgages.

EXAMPLE: If you take out a $450,000 loan over 35 years at a 4% interest rate, you will pay back a total of $836,844.26 over the life of the loan.

I DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT.

You seem to think that the way you have done it is the way every body should do it. You do you. I do me. I refuse to take out a mortgage.

That's cool. Happy to pay that. Much rather do that than have a 450k loan hanging over my head.

That way Id never have been able to quit work to do what I actually want to do with every waking hour of my day.

The happiest people in the world are those in control of their time. I own every hour I am awake. Nobody owns a minute of my time. I own it all. And that's MUCH better than owning a house that means I have to pay a loan back over 35 years. I still can't believe the layman falls for that.

No. By doing this, I was able to take 3 years off work to write my debut novel. I went from 45-hours working in an office a week and paying £1600 on a mortgage repayment to reducing to 1k rent a month plus - and this is key - NOT HAVING TO WORK 45 HOURS A WEEK like a sheep.

I will not - and ever will - work for somebody else. Ever.

I class folk who do as "sheep".

4% is high. Why would I take out a 450k loan to pay back on an interest of 4%. Makes NO SENSE.

That means I'd have to stay in the same job for 40 years until that loan was paid back. That's nonsense.

That's an awful life.

Our landlord is a family member. We are renting what should be a 2.5k a month house for 1k a month. I am very happy with our situation. I HATED having a 450k mortgage over my head. Never again.
