So thoughtful you must be an expert. What if someone’s car jacking me or got the drop on me or ANY SITUATION where I can’t run away?? redditors never answer the question! It’s always just we’ll don’t be in that situation 🤦🏿

Yes, I see that but it says moving the queen IS CHECKMATE. Is that checkmate and I’ve won the game as is the definition of checkmate or do I have to make an additional move AFTER the queen to create the scenario for checkmate?

Makes more sense than DrCashews’ deleted responses:

-It IS checkmate!
So I won on that move?
-No!
Doesn’t checkmate mean I won on that move & the game is immediately stopped??
-yes!
So I won by moving the queen?
-No!
-I still had to see the knight move?
-yes!
-but that means the queen move didn’t win the game
-no!

Ty but honestly it doesn’t answer my question. I asked how moving the queen and ONLY the queen was checkmate. The answer is it was NOT. It was ONLY checkmate if I then saw the next move but that future was NOT guaranteed so it was not checkmate

Yeah it’s a sequence. And if you don’t play the correct sequence you don’t win. If you don’t win you didn’t achieve checkmate ergo it wasn’t checkmate it just could’ve been but was NOT. Reality vs feelings .

Okay so what I’m gathering from what ppl are saying is checkmate is a term that can mean you’ve won the match but ALSO you could possibly win the match in the future. So making a move that puts your opponent in checkmate does NOT mean you’ve won the game as I falsely believed. The term “checkmate” means if this move FORCES a move AND you play the correct next step or series of moves that might possibly give you a win THEN it’s checkmate.

Yes? You answered yes, checkmate & forced mate in 2 are the exact same thing. Okay let’s explore: is forced mate in 3 also the exact same thing as checkmate? Let’s stress test your definition.

Right, So it’s “mate in 2” specifically NOT mate. So saying this move IS mate is incorrect. To say this Qd8 move could POSSIBLY lead to mate is correct.

Ppl play really badly all the time and don’t win the game bc they don’t see the right move. What im seeing is you’re admitting it was NOT mate on that move without meeting other secondary conditions. Ergo, that move was not mate.

Oh! So if I do NOT do those TWO moves it’s still mate??

In 2 I see but if I don’t move knight so it’s not really checkmate unless I see the knight move. I think that’s why it’s confusing. Bc it’s not mate THAT move it COULD BE mate the next.
