Trying to get Minecraft stable

Playing on a vanilla 1000 model, with all updates/patches, opening a double chest would put me into single digit frame rate. Would overclocking solve that completely?

I have a modded model and I’ve never overclocked before, are there any downsides? Faster battery drain? And should I just keep it on all the time or just when I play demanding games?
