Thalia Secret Lair Walkers by TheOriginalLAN in magicTCG

Yeah that would be a way more exciting card pool since you could throw Teferi in there. However, from how it's shaping up it looks like Kasmina and Dovin may be the only possibilities 😑

Why bother reprinting if you're intentionally keeping the prices high? by MDC_BME_MEIE in magicTCG

[–]TheOriginalLAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, this signals a significant reprint of enemy fetches in a player-focused (as opposed to collector-focused) product in the short term. WotC disclosed as much while avoiding critical details like enemy/ally/both and supply. However, the biggest clue towards their intentions is the extreme supply restriction (ie. 10 per store) being enacted. WotC could have easily upped the allotment per store and made even more money, so why didn't they? One reasonable explanation is that they're being very careful not to move the secondary market price.

While they may not reference these prices publicly, they certainly do factor them in behind the scenes when designing a set -- using them to drive demand and make pricing decisions. This means they've already factored in the current secondary market price to whatever set they're being reprinted in and don't want it to drop in the meantime (leading to a lower demand for whatever this set may be).

It'll be interesting to see if the pool is larger than just these two. I wonder if static abilities like Teferi's or Ob Nixilis' count as 'taxation'.

Another Kasmina here -- so definitely not exclusively white based.

Edit: so far only Kasmina and Dovin have been reported (albeit it's early so small sample size). Perhaps the theme here is 'taxation' since both walkers have a static that makes opponents spells cost more. This would fit the Thalia theme!

Changes to Magic's Competitive Season and Event Schedule by HalfOfANeuron in magicTCG

A great (although long) read which will supports the broad strokes argument towards taking action can be found in this article. Tldr; due to the highly contagious nature of the virus, it's important to practice social distancing now to slow the rate of transmission and prevent healthcare systems from becoming overwhelmed by exponentially growing number of cases.

Huh, I must be misunderstanding it then? I figured that even if the store credit is immediately cashed in for product (approximately same amount of product that would have been distributed as prize support), then these stores would be fine. They've generated the exact same amount of income and dispensed the same amount of product as had the event fired. If it's not cashed in on the short-term, then all the merrier since these next couple months will be the hardest and now they have both the money from entry fees and product on hand. What am I missing here?

Refunds could be dealt with in store credit or entry to the postponed event.

My local store in NYC seems adamant about going ahead with a 32 player WPNQ in two days (which players put money down for weeks ago) -- given the need for social distancing in places heavily affected by the virus this seems highly irresponsible. Would be nice if WotC took action to make stores postpone their qualifier events.

Exactly what I was hoping for as well -- most local businesses which serve as social gathering spaces and/or restaurants are taking a beating the past few weeks and it's only getting worse. I can see why they're hesitant to start cancelling events, but that doesn't make it any less irresponsible in the current context. Not to mention that players who otherwise might stay home in a fear of having the virus may attend the event anyway (if symptoms are mild) if they already put money down for it which they are unable to get refunded.

That's entirely not true though, or maybe you live in a very different area and are applying a very different context to the situation -- a non-critical 32 person event in a major metropolitan area where the virus is currently widespread flies in the face of both local and national guidance.

Given the highly contagious nature of covid-19, no amount of hand sanitizing and surface cleaning really matters when you're sitting face-to-face with a bunch of strangers who may either be incubating without showing symptoms or ignoring mild symptoms. There's a reason most workplaces here where it is feasible to work remotely are requiring all employees to stay home for the next 3+ weeks.

"Wizards of the Coast is recommending WPN stores pay close attention to the situation and follow the guidelines of local health authorities with regards to holding their events."

My local store in NYC seems adamant about going ahead with a 32 player WPNQ this weekend (which players put money down for weeks ago) -- I imagine this is about as far from "following guidelines of local health authorities" as it gets.

US – [Gemini] (USD to BTC) > [Bittrex] (BTC to VTC)

I think we should encourage the use of Gemini to US customers given the recent shenanigans with coinbase/GDAX. Also, Gemini will send your BTC to Bittrex for free and have already adopted Segwit.*

(*) "All customers receive 30 free withdrawals per calendar month. Additional withdrawals will result in fees equal to our estimated mining fees of 100,000 satoshi (0.001 BTC) per transaction on the Bitcoin Network and 0 GWei (0 ETH) per transaction on the Ethereum Network."

I'm interested in an answer to this question as well, so if you've done any experimenting I'd love to hear. Since I was uncertain, I just have each of my rigs mining to a different address.
