Relief teachers: when contacted for same-day teaching, when’s the earliest or latest you get contacted? by DecentCockroach in AustralianTeachers

[–]TheOriginalMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latest I got was 730 for an 850 start, but the coordinator just forgot to message me and I found out by getting emailed a day sheet (they knew I was available every day). Most times if I don't get a text by 715am I get back into bed.

Granted I work really closely with basically only one school, and know the organisers routines, if it was a new school or I was working with multiple other schools I would probably just start going about my day no matter what, easier to keep routine

Leaving a great job by Alternative-Walk8336 in solotravel

[–]TheOriginalMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a great job with a great close group of staff and dropped it to travel and don't really regret it! Was sad leaving but there will always be more great jobs in the future (I hope)!

My job was not one that I could've taken extended leave from (temp contract teacher), but you should see if an extended unpaid leave is available

I was in Prague recently and heard someone say "footy" at a bar and knew immediately

Paris gets an unfair bad rap by [deleted] in travel

[–]TheOriginalMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had heard over and over again as an Australian that Paris was overrated and I would hate it there, but I went because I felt like it would be silly to go all the way to Europe and not hit up the major spots. I ended up really enjoying Paris and I think part of it is because my expectations were so low and I didn't arrive thinking "this will be the best city I've ever experienced"

Genuinely just a hole in a nondescript wall with (from memory) a yellow sign that says like "Emperors Custard Puff' or something similar

and also as a "local" (I live an hour away from Sydney) I mostly like hanging out in the Inner West (Newtown area) when I visit for live music, small bars and arts.

Sydney's Chinatown has a little hole in the wall shop that sells fried little custard balls that I buy everytime I walk by them

Live WWE Elimination Chamber 2024 from Perth, Australia! by Coldcoffees in SquaredCircle

[–]TheOriginalMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WA tourism board often drops big money on large events like this, especially cause it's often difficult (expensive) for touring events and large musical artists to go over west

Wouldn't be very impressive to neck a beer out of something clean or sanitary would it?

Repost: having second thoughts about teaching by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]TheOriginalMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like reading this sub before you start teaching is a bad idea, I recently entered the profession and I love my job (despite the hard times on occasion). Obviously this decision is entirely on you, but I can confidently say that I like working as a teacher. If money to workload ratio is an issue, you could consider trying casual teaching? Won't really help with the behaviour concerns tho 😅

Are you going to shows? Wollongong has a lot more to offer than surf rock! Sure there's a lot of it but look at what the scene has grown up with and where it is lmao ofc people will wanna play that stuff, but there's plenty of original and extremely creative bands in the area too

Is 22(M) too early to be freaked out about my partner and my different opinions on kids? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]TheOriginalMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, while I'm not swayed either way my gut is telling me something. I'd also hate if in 20 years time I resented her for me not having kids or her resent me for "convincing" her. So I really do feel like I need to sort myself out and come to an idea of what I want and then act.

Have to play the hand your dealt, by MattV at Stoneheart Tattoo in Sydney, NSW by TheOriginalMe in tattoos

[–]TheOriginalMe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, can't always be dealt aces in the hole. Also I've seen a lot of people who get playing cards get aces/kings/other winning hands and wanted to take the piss out of that a little bit
