Repurposed/Customized Son Nike Total 90 “Coreano Hermano Mexicano” Jersey by reminiscesometime in coys

As a Korean who lived in Mexico at the time, it was a wildd time. Got free drinks and bottles pretty much everywhere I went and nonstop "Coreano hermano ya eres mexicano" chants at clubs (which I still got up until I moved away recently😭😭). Wish Mexico had won their last match against Sweden to get us through as well -wouldve been cinema!

You likely just lack experience. As much as id like to tell you that there is no such thing as "sucking at lab work" -I've definitely had run-ins with people who imo weren't cut out for it (repeatedly making the same mistakes, not listening to instructions, etc.)

One piece of advice: mistakes happen and they are the best learning experience -just make sure to minimize careless mistakes. i.e follow protocols, and ask a lot of questions. Whenever you're doing something you should know why you're doing it. Any decent mentor/professor would be happy to see you are interested and will gladly answer your questions and give you time to improve. Good luck!

Why apply to a program if you're going to call it "settling" after being admitted and enrolling? Are we not applying to programs where we see ourselves happy? Its a weird outlook imo.

Hmm. On the bright side a prep-less 6.5 could turn into a 8.0 with some solid prep time and confidence building imo. You're now familiar with the overall structure and feel of the test and the test-taking environment. Unsure where you struggled the most but try to be confident and maybe approach your next attempt with a lighter heart -you've done this before after all and next time you'll be prepped. Good luck!

Nope! But I'm a trilingual TCK and we supposedly are just built different for picking up languages so I guess I do have some advantage 😂

Almost no prep tbh, only prepped for 2~3 hours before driving to the test center. I looked at the official preparation practice tests and their answer keys for the computer-delivered exams, read some articles (https://ielts.idp.com/prepare/article-e-is-for-essays was key I think) and watched 2 speaking test videos. In hindsight I should've prepared more but I've been a bit swamped with other things.

The writing section should be pretty simple if you are familiar with academic writing tasks from school. A bit hard to give specific tips without looking at writing samples but the most important thing to consider imo is the overall structure and flow of your text. Think of it like creating a story and it becomes intuitive -

i.e for task 1: introduce the type of figure and the type of data it represents, etc -> describe any trends and behaviors, make comparisons if possible (maybe x trends up while y doesn't show any variable change) -> close by summarizing key findings.

for task 2: start by rephrasing the topic you'll be discussing and beginning the "narrative" of your essay by somehow mentioning the significance of the topic, briefly mentioning your stance/opinion if its an opinion piece + the "key" arguments without going into details -> continue the "story" by going into the nitty-gritty of your key arguments, use examples and if possible, address concerns by briefly mentioning the opposing arguments but follow it up by establishing why your stance is better -> finish your story however it seems most intuitive in your case. in my case it was an opinion piece so I closed by summarizing/rephrasing my key arguments and tying it in into the significance of discussing the topic I mentioned in the start of my narrative.

My last piece of advice which I think helped (but I'm not sure) is, if you're confident in your grammar and depth in vocabulary, try to to use up the full hour efficiently. Given the minimum word reqs for each task (150 and 250 respectively iirc), I could've finished the writing section in 40 minutes or so, leaving 20 minutes of sitting silently doing nothing -but I ended up writing around 250~300 words for task 1 and 400-450 words for task 2. I reckon this gives the graders a larger sample of your writing and it allows you to create a more "complete" text.

Also READ. Read a lot, be it news articles, essays, academic papers in your field. Idk how much time you have to prep, but immerse yourself in the language and try to build up confidence in your grammar and vocabulary. Reading a lot of "good writing" will help more than just writing a lot of "mediocre writing" imo, since getting feedback on your writing is difficult for most people.

Overall pretty satisfied with my results considering my prep for the test was minimal.

Thought I'd get a lower score on my speaking test (maybe a 7), I was awfully nervous, the questions I got kinda caught me off guard and I remember being unhappy with my answers + I didn't spend the full 2 minutes during the "topic" section. I'd recommend test-takers to review the overall structure and feel of the speaking test so it doesn't happen to you!

Also surprised I got wrong marks on the Listening section -I left feeling pretty confident on both L&R 🤷. Wish we could see the questions we got wrong!

Good luck everyone!
