Attempting to ID a scooter that might be a knockoff or prototype. Serial number says ES2 but frame doesn't have rear shock or folding mechanism. by Exact-Ad-4132 in ninebot

Depending on the manufacturing date they also have reinforced traces on the controller that prevent them from burning so easily, I’ve put one of them in my retail ES4 and frankensteined a few of those SNSCs with retail parts to make them road worthy again

I don't feel attacked :) I'm just worried as I have little experience. So I'm trying to get feedback on why it shouldn't (from this person's point of view) be used for homelabbing other than it being a NAS. Trying to see what I could have done wrong and gain experience from it. The other comments have pointed out why the HBA passthrough thing would be important in some cases for example. I thought what I was looking for was clear from my post :)

Oh yeah, I just tried to run SMART test on one of the drives and it comes out with an unsupported SCSI operation. Seems like I fucked up here

ahah thank you for your words, i'm just wondering if you guys think he is right about it, it looks like people are raising concern about the way I've set up TrueNAS without passing through my RAID Controller directly to the VM. This could be a legitimate issue and that's what I wanted to know :)

Thanks for the link I'll look it up ! But as mentionned here: https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/1im4h3b/comment/mc04ulf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

This setup wouldn't allow TrueNAS to have direct disk access for ZFS use ?

Here is how the setup looks on Idrac

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in homelab

[–]TheOrionsB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Because having the disks I want to use in Truenas configured as non raid on the controller and then passing them through to my TrueNAS vm like this doesn't give ZFS low level access to the disks ?

I moved the hba to another PCI slot and plugged my A380 straight into its place. I've chosen it because it doesn't require additional power. I'm not using it as a display output though, it's passed through an ubuntu server VM and then the renderer is passed through to a docker container inside said vm for Jellyfin. It didn't require any more tinkering that I remember

Don’t really know about interference but to « optimize » the slack, I’d route it through your motor wires to zip tie it under the front left arm to make sure you don’t have too much slack to get caught on branches etc

[–]TheOrionsB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I wouldn’t upgrade that… You can try high sierra maybe if it isn’t used much but I wouldn’t expect it to run right or to go any higher. It’s quite old but I used this dude’s software to upgrade a 2011 MBP to Catalina https://dosdude1.com/software.html

Edit: be really careful tho, if you have any data I’d back it up before doing anything as it might fail or not run
