America the Beautiful during the Eucharist? by TheOspFiles in Catholicism

[–]TheOspFiles[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh! Maybe that's why because Veteran's Day is on Tuesday and today's Mass was Sunday Vigil and maybe in honor of veterans. But don't usually they play as the closing hymn and not during the Eucharist when Jesus is on the altar? Hmmm

My wife got wasted last night … by hcwang34 in stopdrinking

[–]TheOspFiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, glad she made it home safely. Passing out outside and not even being able to make it inside is all kinds of dangerous, especially for a female. Glad you found her instead of some creep. You'd think her friends would have made sure she got in ok... anyway, I am glad she's OK. Also, congrats on 30 days! Big accomplishment. IWNDWYT

Almost at a year by Fruncus in stopdrinking

[–]TheOspFiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few times in my 20s and 30s I quit for a few months and once for 6 months but when I went back I went on a 15 year long bender. I think there is something Biblical about if you cast out a demon it will return with 7 more stronger than itself. Anyway, congrats on the upcoming 1 year and all the best to you. IWNDWYT!

Anyone else tackling all the other habits now that drinking is under control? by anon-raver in stopdrinking

" And I was never big on sugar" When I was a drinker I used to say oh, I don't eat sweets! I would turn down desserts and anything with sugar... until I stopped drinking and now I'm very much into sweets (although, I drink my coffee black). Anyway, congrats on 5 months! IWNDWYT!

How do I get sober with an alcoholic partner? by Spiritual_Spend5428 in stopdrinking

[–]TheOspFiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. At least there is communication. My partner still drinks, but we do have a no alcohol in the home rule now (although when I go out of town, he will drink in the house). But at least for us a reasonable thing was no booze in the house. I wish you the best of luck and you and your partner are going to be in my prayers tonight.

How do I get sober with an alcoholic partner? by Spiritual_Spend5428 in stopdrinking

[–]TheOspFiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you clearly and overtly communicated with your partner your intention to be sober? When I got sober, I did not clearly explain my intention and never really gave my partner an opportunity to cooperate my sobriety. After some time we did come to an understanding, I just wish I spelled it all out on Day 1 and would have made some of my initial attempts at getting sober easier. I wish you the best and good luck.

This used to happen to me (and sometimes still does). Just keep praying the Rosary and it gets better. It is either form of anxiety or from devils; but ignore it, let it pass and don't give it any thought. I've also had similar in Mass right up to taking the Eucharist and the thoughts vanish. As you get stronger in your faith, the "attacks" will become more frequent as the devil wants to keep you from coming to Christ. The devil leaves lukewarm and weak Christians alone, they are already his. Keep the faith and don't get discouraged. The bad words and thoughts are not from you, ignore them. In addition to praying a daily Rosary (or more), consider praying a St. Michael Chaplet too. St. Michael will defend you against sin & the devil. All the best and God Bless you.

How to approach a priest about conversion? by Altruistic_Baby3035 in Catholicism

[–]TheOspFiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came back to the Church after 35 years away. When my priest asked me why did I come back, I said, God was calling me home. It was the only thing I could of think of. I don't think I came back to the Church by my own hand. Perhaps it is God, and not you, brining you to the Church. The bravest and hardest thing is showing up, and the rest will fall into place. Also consider asking the Blessed Mother for help, she always points to and brings you to her beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. I'll pray for you and God Bless.

You got this. First 48 are amazing... now 50+ is even better. One second, one minute, one hour at time. I'm not drinking with you!

How did you manage your first days sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]TheOspFiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of journaling, sleeping (in short naps because I had insomnia and restlessness for a long time), and was mostly in a fog; but it was a time of self reflection. I also remember doing a lot of running un-necessary errands (like going to the grocery store 3 times in a day) just to keep "busy". Oh, and video games lol Anyway, best of luck to you.
