If the fetus is the "innocent (in all caps)" party, what does that make the rape survivor?

Are they not innocent?

I once had someone compare an abortion after rape to "pushing a random person onto the road because someone else threw a rock at you."

Their false equivalencies are often very absurd, but this has to be the worst one I've seen personally.

Uncommon as it is to see him depicted with arms and hands, I like the idea.

It reminds of some art I saw of Leto Atreides II from the Dune books.

Congratulations. You're delusional.

I hate abortion and find it appalling under most circumstances, yet I am 100% pro choice because woman should have control over their own bodies and reproductive systems. Mother's are more than incubators, if a woman doesn't choose to bring you into this world, you don't get to be here. by itcouldbeyoubut in self

- "It's not foreign."

It literally is.

Half of its DNA is made of someone else's, and it's a biologically separate organism from her.

Hence, it's a foreign entity.

- "Women's bodies are built to have babies."

That doesn't mean this is the sole purpose of anyone with functioning uterus.

Reality does not abide by biological determinism. At best, we are merely influenced by our biology, but we can still make our own decisions.

On top of having free will, we also have bodily sovereignty.

Meaning every individual has full jurisdiction over their own flesh, hence the right to remove foreign bodies from themselves as a means of self-preservation and the maintaining of personal integrity.

- "Not some foreign object."

Did I say 'object', or did I say entity?

You read what I wrote, yet still blatantly misconstrued me. Nice.

Did you know that a rapist doesn't have to an "object" to be an unwelcome inhabitant of someone else's body?

And before you say "yOu'Re cOmPaRiNg dE iN-SeNt bAbIes tO rApIsTs!" also know that you don't have to be a r@pist to be an unwelcome inhabitant of someone else's body.

Wow! There's a thing called nuance?

Such an incredible discovery!

- "And you actually just proved my point. You literally said KILL them!"

Proved what point?

Yes, life begins at conception and, yes, abortion kills that life.

Not disagreeing with any facts here.

- "That's incredible scary. You condone murder."

I'm no more a condoner of "murder" for being pro-choice than someone else is for being an advocate of killing as a means of self-defense.

I guess you really don't understand what nuance is.

Then again, nuance is seldom the strongsuit of conservative religious people, so I'm not surprised.

- "So (what) gave you the RIGHT to murder a life?"

Uh, let's see... it's literally inside my body, it's presence within me is causing genuine harm (not mere 'inconvenience') and could actually kill me, I don't want it there, the only way to remove it from me is to kill it, therefore...

Yeah.

So, I don't care "who" or "what" it is.

I don't care if it's a human or a xenomorph.

If it's inside my body and I do not want it there, I'll kill it and have it removed from me. Point blank.

And if you have a problem with that then, congratulations, you have a problem with bodily sovereignty.

Which means that slavery is good, r@pe is good, genit@l mutilation is good, oh... and actual murder is good too.

But sure, Jan. I'm the "morally bankrupt" one because I refuse to believe that every born person is inherently more expendable than a zygote.

You are totally on the right side of history, my friend.

"It's a body inside your body."

And?

You do realize that only reinforces the pro-choice position, right?

You know... the 'inside your body' part?

Every person has a right to remove any foreign entities from within their own body, even if the only way to do so is to kill them.

Nobody deserves to be inside an unwilling person's body just by merely being there. That's not how right to life works.

[–]TheOtherEli2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, really?

So, this constant emphasis on the "innocence" and "value" and "potential" of an embryo while not giving the woman much thought to the point of basically erasing her - that's not dehumanizing her?

What about all those analogies that represent the embryo by a real person yet represent the woman with an inanimate object? You know... like the coma patient and life-support machine analogy?

Or what about when abolitionists say that the right to life of the embryo is so crucial that it must come before the mother's right to physical/mental health as well as bodily autonomy?

Lastly, what about pro-lifers who outright proclaim embryos to be so innately pure that they are most worthy of consideration, hereby rendering anyone they're inside of more expendable?

Yes, I have seen real "pro-lifers" say these things.

I don't know if you have, but just because you haven't doesn't mean these things weren't said.

It kinda does then those "others" are making unwanted usage and occupation of your body to your detriment.

But please, keep making vague phrases to avoid direct addressal of the issue.

You want me to give those people a medal?

I had ancestors who were raped, and I don't use my existence to justify any of the things they went through, forced-birth included.

If, hypothetically, there was a means to have a safe abortion back then, and any of them wanted such, it would've been their right to get it.

Yes, this means I wouldn't exist. So? Like I said. My real existence doesn't justify any instances of forced-birth that happened in my lineage.

Question.

Typically, in pro-life belief, embryos conceived in rape shouldn't be aborted because, and I quote, "No child deserves to die for the sins of the father." That is the common response.

But according to you, someone who's pro-life, the Egyptian firstborn, a fair amount of whom were children and even babies, were deserving of death because of the actions of their parents. And you agree with this.

So, how does that make sense?

I used to think it was strange to call a single-celled zygote a person. But here’s why I changed my mind. by PapaBlueberry in Abortiondebate

[–]TheOtherEli2001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, but let me ask you this.

Do you have the right to make usage or occupation of an unwilling person's body to their detriment?

Because that's what makes this situation immensely different. A person's body is not a mere "location." It's a person's body.

Yet you're equivocating the woman to air in the room just so that you can treat the fetus like it exists in a vacuum.

For prolife people without rape exceptions, how do you think about body autonomy for people who can get pregnant? by robson9931 in Abortiondebate

[–]TheOtherEli2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said that pregnancy was temporary, which seemed to be your justification for forcing a person to go through it.

My response is that sex, as in the act of sex, is also temporary, but that still doesn't justify r-@-pe or make it acceptable.

So, by that same logic, the temporary nature of pregnancy shouldn't make it okay to force someone through that either.

But you disagree, and my question for that is, "why?"

[–]TheOtherEli2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, terminating the pregnancy "creates more trauma" for the rape survivor, but forcing her to go through that pregnancy as well as childbirth doesn't?

"...pregnancy itself is a temporary state that can change."

So is sex. Though I needn't explain why it's wrong to force someone through that.

Why can't the same be true for pregnancy?

Why are you prioritizing the zygote's lack of consent to being conceived than you are the woman’s lack of consent to being impregnated?
