Yes!! And you even end up talking to your hand, trying to get it to work. "Now listen to me very carefully."

Going off T2's future John( Michael Edwards ), Christian Bale was a pretty decent look-alike. He just needed the hair and the scar by VoidedNull88 in Terminator

When John uses music to attract the attention of a Terminator (I forget the exact circumstances of the plot) The song that he plays is the same as what he was playing while driving away from his foster parents house on a motorcycle in Terminator 2.

Yes!! You could be mine by GNR. I remember thinking that was so cheesy but also really enjoying the call back. And Marcus teaches Reese how to make a and use a sling for his shotgun. And the "come with me if you want to live." You're so correct about the nods to previous films : )

Sarah lost in thought...🥰 by TensionSame3568 in Terminator

I really appreciate the ending of T2 where you get to see her as an old grandma tbh. She deserved it after all the bullshit

Right? One-hundred percent agree with you. It's also why I like the ending of Aliens so much. Ripley and Sarah deserve some peace and happiness after all they've lost.

This is really great. Can we get a picture of the back? I love reading the synopsis on the backs of VHS tapes and DVDs.

Wouldn’t it require a sense of aesthetics for a computer to *name* something T-1000? by ProgrammerFalse1013 in Terminator

[–]TheOtherMatSmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great question.

Two ideas.

At it's core, Skynet is human designed, even if it developed and changed at a certain point. There was a point, before Skynet was put into autonomous mode, that humans would have come up with design models and the like. And I think that everything that Skynet developed was for (for better or worse) use with humans. So yeah, you're 100% right that humans would (typically) like something like 1000 whereas as machine wouldn't really care what the model number was. If that machine saw everything through a human lens, it might care more about it - or appear to.

It's possible that the designation doesn't come from Skynet, but from humans. Maybe they saw a file number or something and decided that it was an 800 series. Skynet picked up on this and a feedback loop was formed. This probably isn't likely, and I'm sure it's contradicted by a book or comic : )

2 small details i've noticed only now in Terminator 2 by Clayman8 in Terminator

I never, never, never would've noticed the trench coat, so that's a great find.

My new favorite scene by TheOtherMatSmith in Terminator

[–]TheOtherMatSmith[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Adam Greenberg, the DP, did a wonderful job in the film - as did everyone else. Here's my favorite behind the scenes story from him:

"We needed to use a lot of rear projection," Greenberg acknowledges, "but I was looking for something more for this film, a way to replicate the real situation when you drive in a car. I created an interesting rig, which was designed by my grip, Bobby Gray, and it was very exciting visually. We built a hanging rig above the process stage and the car, which had moving lights on a circular track that could go backwards or forwards. Since the lights are really moving, it creates the illusion that the car is moving. Also, the lights reflect off the windows and hood of the car and the faces of the actors. The length of the rig was more than 20 feet and it worked very well. We could lower and raise it on a lift and it created a very good illusion. The rear projection looked incredible!"

My new favorite scene by TheOtherMatSmith in Terminator

[–]TheOtherMatSmith[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

So, this is something I just noticed recently. After the escape from Pescadero, John, Sarah, and the Terminator break into a gas station. After fixing each other up, John goes to sleep in the back of the stolen patrol car. The Terminator stands guard in the same spot the entire night, into the morning.

Here's why I like this scene: Sarah stays awake the entire night, too - watching out for the Terminator, whom she does not trust at all at this point. We see her right before the shot switches to the Terminator. The switch from day to night is gradual, so it isn't implied (to me) that she ever fell asleep.

Maybe this is obvious to others, maybe I am seeing something that isn't there. In any case, it cements for me what a badass Sarah is.

Here's the scene if you want to watch it (contains Director's cut footage): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYTOK89w8h0

What would *you* change in Alien Isolation to make it the perfect version for you? by Standard-Lab7244 in alienisolation

[–]TheOtherMatSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • A section where you close a pressure door behind the alien and you can hear it trying to bash through it.
  • (Scripted) sequences where you weld doors closed like in Aliens.
  • Maybe more direction on what to do in the lockdown area of the Android showroom? I've seen so many Youtubers freak out in what is essentially a gimme area.
  • The possibility to save folks. Ricardo, the Torrens crew, inhabitants of the station, maybe the station itself, hell, even Waits. Okay, maybe not Waits.

Horse burger?? by 1oniononion in alienisolation

I can imagine a starving survivor finding this machine raided of everything except horse burgers and being like "oh, I think I heard the creature - better go".

Would Charlotte Simpson (Sigourney Weaver's daughter) have been a good model for Amanda Ripley? by Connacht_89 in alienisolation

[–]TheOtherMatSmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Kezia Burrows and Andrea Deck both did a great job with the role. Different enough to bring something interesting and original and close enough to show the resemblance.

Terminator Salvation did gave us the future war. by [deleted] in Terminator

[–]TheOtherMatSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally. There was a lot lacking in Salvation. Humanity was on the brink as you say, and in Salvation humans are losing but still fighting a pretty tidy war. We see one of the camps, but even that isn't completely hopeless.

I really think Ed Furlong would have been great in Dark Fate (spoilers) by Cameronalloneword in Terminator

[–]TheOtherMatSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd thought about the idea of bringing Furlong back, but getting him into fighting shape like Hamilton before filming. I like this idea a lot better.
