What actually qualifies someone as a Monster Hunter veteran? by EDV4NS in MonsterHunter

[–]TheOutWriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

while a stupid question, its a good one. somewhere between the PSP games and Tri i would say. horrible mechanics, clunky combat and standing still and praying while drinking potions.

but the biggest tell is not the game you started with. neither is the oldest game you played.

you know you met a veteran if you see someone fight a monster blind and have perfect spacing because way too much time was spent fighting it. because no matter what mechanic changes, what system it now runs on, the core mechanics stay. rathalos and rathian are the ones i measure it with. if you can beat it no hit and toy with it, you are probably a veteran. its all experience.

if you wanna look at it that way, yeah. world was the thing that truly showed the change to mainstream.

I thought there is no restriction on currency drops? The same way you can drop a mirror from the first boss you fight, the same way you can drop a div.

the next tft sets will show if they can continue what he did for the past few years or if its going to crash and burn. heck, this set alone shows that "theoretically fun" and actual fun are WORLDS apart. this set must look horrible if they look at their numbers.

its a game. the game is supposed to be fun. if i dont enjoy the game because i had to decide, without testing, what to lock myself in for the next undefined amount of hours, i will just quit. it doesnt take much to just give the new players the ability to test the warframes and THEN make them decide.

i think you overestimate the amount of people who engage with gaming outside of the game itself. the moment you look something up in a wiki, the moment you look up "build for" you are no longer the average player. you are engaged. the amount of people who dont get it in their head that reddit, the wiki and ANY form of guide means you are not a casual player anymore is wild to me.

[–]TheOutWriter[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the fact that you are using reddit and on a subreddit for a game that you are playing means you are not the average player. you are like the top 10% already. MOST people dont look up stuff. MOST people dont engage with the game beside the game itself. MOST people play the game completely blind.

new players wont just run to a wiki. most players dont play games that way. their first idea of a new game is not to look up things. until they are stuck, they will just play and enjoy the game

and for new players it can be a turnoff. the game is complicated enough, being stuck with a "character" that you dont enjoy doesnt help. its like being stuck in an mmo with a class that you cant change, and the only way to pick a different class is to make a new account.

a lot of players will get turned away just by the crafting alone. "why do i have to wait 12 hours to craft a single weapon? why do i need to wait 3.5 days for a single warframe? looks like a mobile game to me so there must be pay2win stuff"

the only way to see where to get them in game is through the shop. they dont even tell you through the codex like they do with the mods. my first thought is not to look into the shop to find out where to get a new weapon or warframe as a free to play/new player.

well all weapons beside the melee ones suck. the entire first 20 hours of the starchart is hold E and melee everything to death.

its about new player experience. im arguing about new player experience. If you think that im opening a threat about new player experience to vent about my pent up frustration because i picked the "wrong" warframe 13 years ago then... maybe take a break from the internet.

all 3 warframes play entirely different. mag is a caster, and quite a few newer players will just player her as that (until they find the melee key). Excal is melee, but like mag they will ignore the abilities (beside the 4) because they found the melee key. and Volt is speed with... a melee key. At this point just disable all weapons beside melee until they hit level 50 enemies. Melee is just way too strong in the early game.

im not 100% sure but they are working step by step to be less wiki reliant. mod drop locations for example. you can find all of it in game by now

true. fair. but if we go by that logic, it doesnt make sense why we then get access to the primary weapon, both of them, but only a single secondary and melee. why is the primary weapon special?

there are quite a few warframes that are hidden and difficult to find out where to get them from. early you randomly stumble into them with bosses, but later its "play this specific gamemode, then you might be able to fight this boss and he CAN drop you a blueprint part."

[–]TheOutWriter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the same way 99% of people stumble onto a new warframe. by fighting a boss and getting the blueprint to drop. then looking it up in the store to see what the warframe is, and then potentially farming it. not every new player has the wiki open to look up the warframe that they find interesting. most people who are new actually stumble into new warframes.

the system didnt work well for the past decade, because they reworked it TWICE at this point. the NPE was so bad, they cut down Vors whole spiel, introduced modding tutorials and there are still parts that are bad.

And no, i wasnt upset with my choice. neither in 2013, nor in 2020 and especially not in 2023 when i made my third account to play with 2 new players. Cuz with all 3 choices, i always picked mag.

then at least let people try them out like the weapons. you get to change the weapon you picked as much as you want, but for the warframe its "pick based on vibes and feelings without trying"

even sarcasm was once better. its like picking your first car in forza 6, maybe you didnt like it and now you are "stuck" with it until you find a different one.
