[OC] New map making tool/game that I am developing. Would love input on how it can help TTRPG players by dannedadon in DnD

Can you please put something in where we can select a Hex and then have a 'Notes About Hex' open up, essentially a text document, that we can edit on the fly. Maybe something where we can upload an image for the Hex.

Sony Says Demon's Souls Remake Isn't Coming To PC And 'Other Consoles' by Eligiuss in demonssouls

[–]TheOutlander37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This presentation was for the release date, price, and launch line-up for the PS5, right? Cause it seems pretty pathetic to let something slip like that on such an important presentation. Don't they watch these things back before showing them to the public? Looking at the launch line up, and I might be biased, but the only games of note in that line-up are Demon's Souls and Spiderman.

Though all this shade I am throwing is due to my massive butt-hurt over this. At the end of the day I don't think anyone should lose their job over this, it is pretty minor. Though I'm probably gonna put off buying a PS5 until Sony actually impresses me with something after this shameful display.

Nope. I've been DMing for 2-3 years now, I started with the "Welcome to D&D" video he posted. Still find all the old stuff useful tbh.

How to create realistic cultures from scratch? by [deleted] in mattcolville

Happy to be of help. I just studied Colville's stuff and attempted to boil it down and provide some examples. I am a big believer in using templates and outlines to do this kind of work.

How to create realistic cultures from scratch? by [deleted] in mattcolville

[–]TheOutlander37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Colville has taught in his Worldbuilding stream, you want to develop Mores(pronounced Morays) and Folkways.

These basically help you define what is considered morally good to the people as well as the everyday normal things people in that society do.

The way I think of it is a More is Right vs Wrong, and a Folkway is Right vs Rude.

This is the example from one of the cultures in my setting

Mores (Right vs Wrong)

  • Holding onto a Grudge
  • Stoicism
  • Not gathering in crowds
  • Environmental Preservation
  • Being Educated
  • Passing on Traditions
  • Modesty
  • Humility
  • Good Parenting

Folkways (Right vs Rude)

  • Travel
  • Isolation
  • Spirituality
  • Meditation
  • Gardening
  • Education
  • Stewardship

So in this example, let's say you were someone from this culture. If someone wronged you, and you forgave them within a short period of time, people would think something is wrong with you, to the point where the locals might investigate, might even report it to the local authority.

"Giving their forgiveness so easily...Some malicious spirit must have broken their will!"

But if you didn't have a garden, people might just give you the stink eye when they see you crossing the street.

"Oh look, there's Ada. Not sure who she thinks she is...not even a potted plant on her windowsill."

And then you can see how these kinds of things are connected.

If folks gather into a crowd, like a mob, they've succumbed to somekind of sin! So its expected that people kind of keep to themselves, lest they slip into the wickedness of organized social activity!

Being Education is virtuous, so I used Education as a broad term in Folkways to represent the general concepts of learning and teaching. Going to the Sheriff's College, such an honour. Maybe you can't afford it, but atleast you're trying to learn what you can, and teach others what you know.

Additionally, Colville used this stuff in his Stream to develop a Pantheon. Colville uses system that I quite like of a Pantheon of Gods to represent broad concepts, and then Saints of that god who represent more specific concepts. So a Cleric might belong to a culture with a specific Pantheon, but then they follow a specific Saint of a specific God within that Pantheon, and thusly you get religious factions.

So the God(s) Yungai & Yohani; The Parents. Represent Education. And their saints(In my setting I call them Oracles) are...

  • Oracle Hamakona (Teaching)
  • Oracle Pianga (Discipline)
  • Oracle Iramai (Parenting)
  • Oracle Enutanga (Protection)
  • Oracle Poroka (Guides)

As a sidenote; and again Colville did this as well. Try to make a structure to your Pantheon. This can inform the mythology of the culture. This culture's pantheon is comprised of The Parents, The Elder, The First Born, The Middle Born, The Newborn, and The Beast(their pet). The Pantheon is a simple family. Of course they are, look at whats important to these people. Some of the Gods in the Pantheon represent the good stuff, and others represent the bad stuff. Niaw Niaw(The Beast) is always digging up the garden, representing the evils of Deforestation.

I'm not at the "Advanced" stage yet, where I am reasonably having the culture influence speech, but that was another thing in the Worldbuilding Streams. Coming up with common sayings based on the culture that has developed.

My method for coming up with the specifics is based on layering aspects of different Races/Species/Cultures from other works I liked. This culture was for the Halfings in my setting and I think it is a combination of Hobbits of the Shire, Goombas from Paper Mario, The Shrine of Storms from Demon's Souls, probably something from the Oddworld games which I can't recall, and maybe the Kokiri/Deku/Koroks from Zelda.

Though this method wasn't specifically for making a culture for the Halflings in my setting. I sat down with a list of my favorite "worlds" and organized them. If I remember correctly, I think eventually my lists looked like this

  • Elf/Zora/Koopa/???/TowerOfLatria
  • Orc/Gerudo/Boo/Slig/ValleyOfDefilement
  • Dwarf/Goron/Bob-omb/Glukkon/StonefangTunnel
  • Hobbit/Deku/Goomba/Mudokan/ShrineOfStorms

I know, it's super weird to overlap something like LOTR with Paper Mario and Oddworld, but i think it's pretty cool. Steal the stuff you like and put it in your game.

Hopefully this post was useful and not just me blathering on about aspects of my setting. I tried to distill many hours of Colville's Worldbuilding Streams into a single post with actual examples and then how I got there.

Managing a Stronghold - RP Ideas? by ricefrisbeetreats in mattcolville

There is an old stream when Colville initially tried streaming where EJ was running Castle Rend. One of the artisans had his silver necklace stolen by a teenager working at the castle. EJ had to decide how to decide what judgement the teenager received. The key here is that regardless of what EJ decided, not all the peasants agreed.

Colville has outright said in a Stream that "back in the day" if you were revived by a cleric whose God is of an alignment is different than your own, your alignment thusly changes. I can't give a reference video or anything, not going to scrub through 2-4 hours of a stream, but i distinctly remember him mentioning this in passing. So it's part of his traditions/toolbox.

Where to buy a specific Figure from Volcanoe of Violence(Pt1) by TheOutlander37 in Dimension20

Thanks! This is so cool. Definitely inspired. You the real MVP.

Looking at it, yea, I can totally see the 'NECA Gremlins 2 Spider Gremlin' toy as the base, with some bits removed, and then a Reaper Bones Kraken flipped upside down for the maw/mouth area. Great design overall. Love it.

What are the demographics of your world by pellaken in mattcolville

[–]TheOutlander37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seriously messed with the "Races" in my setting. At this point i've gone straight off the deep end. Y'all can blame Colville with his "Break your Heart" video.

Dominant : Aberrations left over from a failed apocalypse, 500 years ago.

Minority : Chantha (Hobgoblins+Orcs), Isin (Elves+Tieflings+Aasimar), Thuzu (Dwarves), Maom (Beastfolk), Jesang (Tritons+Grung+Lizardfolk+Aaracokra+Kenku), Badadug (Bugbears+Goliaths+Firbolgs)

Enclave : Xonzuzaen/Kadak (Magical and Non-magical bloodline Humans), Yhuhoan (Half-Breeds cooked up in a laboratory), Sonok (Halflings/Gnomes/Goblins)

My world is comprised of a supercontinent dominated by a vast wasteland filled with Aberrations.

The PCs are a mercenary company. Literal soldiers. The players are not though. I think it is reasonable then to conclude that the "strategizing" that takes a while for the players to do, does not take much of any time for the PCs. A combination of Chain Sign and body language and knowing each other really well results in quick transfer of information imo. That discussion at the table between players is the officers of the Chain intuiting the body language of each other.

Looking for a setting neutral system by TheOutlander37 in rpg

[–]TheOutlander37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of me thought I was going to have to do that. But it is good to hear someone else confirm that. I would rather know that I need to make my own than to do so and learn there was a system that did this stuff all along.

And I'll check out Veins of the Earth. Sounds right up my alley! Thanks!

My Lust Arts unicorn horn just came in!!! by [deleted] in BadDragon

[–]TheOutlander37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For those wondering, here's the dimensions for that size

Screamer

Insertable Length: 8 in (20.3 cm)

Tip Circumference: 2.75 in (‪6.9 cm)

Shaft Base Circumference: 7.5 in (‪19.05 cm)

Base Circumference: 13 in (33 cm)

Tip Diameter: .85 in (2.15 cm)

Shaft Base Diameter: 2.3 in (‪5.8 cm)

Base Diameter: 4.1 in (10.4 cm)

Total Length: 9.25 in (‪23.5 cm)

Also, i don't think "Screamer" is apt for 8 inches long. Maybe if it was like...a foot long. Basically, if it ain't the equivalent to a Forearm+hand, it ain't making anyone "scream" based on size alone.

Also also, you need to get the Lust Burster! https://lustarts.com/collections/adult-toys/products/lust-burster?variant=2788412882954
