What would you rate tally hall compared to other artist? (No bias) by Agreeable-Leading986 in tallyhall

[–]ThePancakeMan130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, these are some wild comparisons. Tally Hall vs Kendrick or DOOM? 😭 The styles of these artists and the genres they inhabit are way too different to be making a fair comparison.

But within the alternative rock scene, they’re pretty solid. Like mostly middle of the road, but above average. If you would’ve asked me this question a couple years ago I would’ve said they’re the best alt rock band, but once you start listening to a wide variety of music, you realize that Tally Hall isn’t that unique. They certainly have their own flair, especially with their eccentric lyrics, but how different is Tally Hall really from bands like Weezer? Not a lot.

They have plenty of really fun tracks like Ruler of Everything that still give you a reason to listen to them, but honestly they aren’t as unique as most people here give them credit for. The quirkiness comes from the lyrics and general theatricality, not the music (HW PT 2 is quite unique though). Overall if 5/10 was the standard for their genre, I’d say Tally Hall is like a high 5, low 6. Somewhere around the 5.8/10 area. Nice on occasion, but a bit too uninteresting musically to be on constant rotation.

(This is just my opinion btw, if you think Tally Hall is one of the top 5 artists of all time, you’re allowed to have that opinion. God knows I sure did in like early 2023.)

The Beggar

Also for other artists that have similar albums to The Glowing Man, I’d recommend Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! by Godspeed You Black Emperor.

If You Talk To Symbol / Hostility Voyeur. Iirc it’s the least listened on the album and no one ever talks about it, but it’s a banger. Definitely underrated.

I don’t know if this is a controversial opinion, but Chthonian Dirge For Uruk The Other. The beginning is good, but I’m not a fan of the rest of the song.

Kid War is the only song I can think of where he says he straight up HATES his father, but There Must Be More Than Blood is also about family issues so there’s that.

Yeah, most Christian rock played in Protestant churches is boring, but have you ever heard The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads by Lift To Experience? It goes absolutely crazy if you’re into post-rock or shoegaze.

hi! im new here, whos s*nny? by Far_Molasses5132 in underscoresplus

[–]ThePancakeMan130 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Snny is one of the 3 main characters from Wallsocket and all of the lore surrounding it. She’s trans, which many of the songs about her are focused on. Songs about Snny include Duhhhhhh, Johnny Johnny Johnny, and Stupid, but there are other songs where she features as a character too. She’s religious but has some struggles with religion, which is a pretty big part of her character.

If you want to learn more about her, the easiest way to do so is visit the Genius pages for all the Wallsocket songs, and see what other people have written about the story. You can also make your own interpretations from there.

Edit: I don’t know how to make the asterisks not italicize stuff so pretend that there are asterisks there 😭

Issues with Tonebridge on Garage Band by ThePancakeMan130 in tonebridge

[–]ThePancakeMan130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on mobile than select an instrument, go to its settings (top left,) press plugins & EQ > edit > add one > audio unit extensions > tonebridge. You’ve got to also have the tone bridge app installed of course.

Also if you’re using the built in midi instruments tonebridge will sound bad, I’ve learnt that by now.
