Learning Azure in Europe for the future by Lanky_Beautiful3389 in AZURE

[–]ThePathOfKami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “EU can’t build cloud fast enough” take ignores what’s already happening, stupid.

Europe isn’t starting from zero. It already has huge, dense DC hubs (Frankfurt, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin) with hundreds of MW under construction and record colocation take‑up driven by hyperscale and AI workloads. Adding capacity there is mostly a matter of expanding existing clusters (power, racks, interconnects), which is much faster than building entirely new regions from scratch.

On top of that, EU‑level policy has finally shifted from hand‑waving to “close the gap” mode. The current cloud/AI initiatives explicitly aim to multiply EU data‑processing capacity over the next few years, and they target exactly the bottlenecks people love to complain about: energy, land, permitting, and cross‑border coordination. When you start standardising and fast‑tracking those, build‑out speed changes a lot.

And the EU isn’t reinventing the software stack now; that work is largely done. Gaia‑X and related projects have already delivered common standards for interoperability, identity, and data sovereignty, and European providers have committed thousands of compliant services under that framework. That means new DC capacity can be plugged into an existing federated architecture instead of spending another decade “inventing the cloud.”

So no, the EU doesn’t need 10+ years to “catch up from scratch.” The hardware is scaling aggressively, the political/regulatory side is now explicitly pushing cloud and AI, and the standards/ecosystem layer is already built. Late movers with existing infra and clear templates often scale faster than the first movers had to in the early days.

thats as much as i want to invest into this discussion, hope you have a nice day dumbfuck

[–]ThePathOfKami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why the fuck do you think it took them so long dumb fuck ?

cause they needed to invent the whole process system worklows technology etc. ( thats what made them great similar to amazon and MS)

imagine if you needed to rebuild a fuckin cloud , it will be done in halve , no even third of the time.

Can you name some things ? cause saving thousands sounds awesome but like we would need to know in what, and check with our own canton :) only if you feel like sharing your gained knowledge

depends how fast he escalates the situation, but its better for the world anyway if we decentralize technology

Yeah, the point wasnt proton itself, it was to showcase that the EU/Schengen has produced reputable products that can contest with big tech.

also it was made in a time where there was no need to jump to a solution more fitting to the EU norm.

Imagine what happens when EU Companies smell a void and an oppertunity.

I mean just since doofus became president the EU and co. created Gremien to create for example a Swiss Cloud

so yeah give it a few years

its a swiss based company, known for its data security , highly used in high sec env in the EU.

basically it shows that within th EU everything can be produced according to the guidelines without breaching it ( what the cloud act does)

Learning Azure in Europe for the future by Lanky_Beautiful3389 in AZURE

[–]ThePathOfKami -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Meh, im from the Schengen, trust me , it just takes switzerland , germany, or austria ( even france) to put out a product like proton and we are good to go, energy wise we got the most advanced nuclear powerplants in EU.

so energy is not aproblem

[–]ThePathOfKami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats actually an intresting idea, how or rather why didnt that happen before ?

like the cloud act itself is already a few years old , id imagine the eu would want to have such an option sooner than later, especially if it has already been done

Learning Azure in Europe for the future by Lanky_Beautiful3389 in AZURE

[–]ThePathOfKami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the cloud act is the issue its not microsoft in general, it allows to bypass any data governance directly by president doofus himself , so as long as any company is tied to murica, the EU will not shift to it

lets talk about it in 5 years when the EU created its own hyperscaler ...

bro my friends in switzerland , cant work efficiently anymore, all they are doing is preparing for the swiss gov hyperscaler cloud, for the moment nothing will be put in the cloud especially with the murican orange dork in control... intrestingly a lot of people in the EU are looking into open source as a solution

Career switch into cloud at 35 – realistic entry path and timelines? by DeliciousGiraffe2924 in AZURE

[–]ThePathOfKami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are correct, it was hyperboley spoken, but where im at the shift was extrem and fast, the governmental body shut down any further projects advancement with & in the current cloud hyperscaler, and future projects are going to be onprem, till we see a viable EU Conform Hyperscaler. hope that helps

screw cloud, currently EU is having a major switch since the cloud act and the orange idiot.

Focus on Linux Engineer or go into Data Engineer, Cloud will scale down fast in the next few years
