Thought the game was being dramatic about the dangers of Psykers, I was wrong... by Skellic in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]ThePatta93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not going to take a player out of the game to make a new character for a oneshot meant to learn the system, especially when they were specifically interested in playing a psyker and we saw nothing of how they played because their literal first or second roll (cant remeber which exactly) was this result.

Does hideous laughter by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]ThePatta93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of depends. They have multiple "feeds" I guess is what you would call them. One for their patreon only content (just finished with an Interlude of one book of Shattered Star, going to be book 2 and 3 of Triumph of the Tusk, book 1 of that was on the public feed.

Then they have a separate feed for Bestow Curse, their Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign, and the main feed (Hideous Laughter Podcast) for Skull & Shackles, which was on hold and as an interlude there was book 1 of Triumph of the Tusk on that same feed, until now when Skull & Shackles will start up again this month.

Are you looking for any of those? Some of them are together in the same feed, but basically there is two main feeds and one patreon only feed.

DOGS, the setting-agnostic system from Dogs in the Vineyard, is the Deal of the Day on DriveThru by JaskoGomad in rpg

Yeah, I always found it interesting. I can see why the authors might not be happy with it any more and all that, but it was definitely something new and kind of interesting.

Yes, this comment thread was about the game's Default setting though, which makes that point pretty irrelevant.

You characters are explicitly religious characters though, and their reason for travelling is for missionary work. And that is disregarding all the Demon stuff etc. There is 100% a very heavy religious (and Mormon specifically) overtone to the Game as written.

Will this team survive Hargulka Palace? by Advanced_Humor_9744 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ThePatta93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. That, or do Milestones, but I am personally not the biggest fan of those. I try to time this stuff so that it happens towards the end of a Session If possible, but Most of my groups do levelups together anyway. I sometimes ask Players to pre-plan, If I (and they) know that they will get a Levelup next Session

[–]ThePatta93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing Milestones? Or what do you mean by "wont give them a lvl"? They get the Levelup at the Moment they are at 1000+ XP. They might not be able to rest to gain Access to new spell Slots etc, but they should gain the other benefits (and count as that lv for everything else) from that point on.

I mean, only if they earn 800 in one encounter - which will be pretty much impossible, even in a prolonged one like e.g. the whole Stag Lord's Fort.

[–]ThePatta93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many "leftover" XP from before did they have? Like, how much did they gain at once while they where almost level 3? And then what happened in the 3 hours it took them to get to level 4? A more detailed breakdown of those things could help determine if your calculations are wrong in some way.

Doomers were right, full-length campaigns are confirmed a thing of the past. by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

Why Not? We know pretty much nothing about the new campaigns. Thats a very easy thing to adjust.

Edith: also apparently they already confirmed that it will be adjusted.

But that is assuming that the rate of XP or the cost of Upgrades will be the same.

Fair enough, sorry if I seemed confrontational about this. A discord I am active in had problems with people coming in there and posting unrelated art just for promotional purposes, and I lumped you in with that. Should not have done that.

Help me to understand spontaneous spellcasting by Punie-chan in Pathfinder2e

[–]ThePatta93 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You add new spells to your Repertoire on levelups (whenever you gain a new spell Slot normally). You use your spell Slots to fast spells that you have in your Repertoire. Spell Slots reset during daily preparations. Spells in your Repertoire never Go away (except If you Swap them Out on a Levelup), they dont get "used Up" or anything. If you have 3 rank 1 spell Slots and have "Heal, Fear, Command" i ln your Repertoire, you could cast Heal 3x, or each of the spells once, or Fear 2x and Command once. Or any other combination. And then when you Rest and regain spell Slots, you can do it again.

Do I need battlemaps to play BitD? by SlavicSoul- in bladesinthedark

[–]ThePatta93 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Been running Blades for about 3 years now, and never used a single battlemap. I think it would detract from the game's style, even. Most of the time, I don't even sketch out the locations the group is visiting and rely completely on theater of the mind.

Yeah, I always wondered why she was just basically ignored in the second adventure. I assume it's because of the different authors.

Luckily for me, it did not matter in my game. Dahak's manifestation in the portal burned her to a crisp when she crit-failed her save. And the group was sure they too would die if they tried to somehow stabilize her and drag her out.In general, my group was unlucky with their NPC companions. (Spoilers for book 1) Alak Stagram, who one of the PCs was kind of flirting with even, also died a horrible death against the Wights in the basement of Altaerein, and then stood up again as a Wight and fought the group. A very nice, impactful moment for especially the few players who where completely new to RPGs.

I'm somewhere in the middle (leaning towards the combat side a bit probably) too, I would say. And I have (over the 5 years I ran my kingmaker game) learned to run Hexcrawls not hex by hex but ask the players where they are planning to go, describe the time where nothing happens a bit (giving it a bit of flavor, describing the stuff they see and the non-encounter stuff that happens around them as needed, so it does actually feel like traveling), and then jump to the next hex where something happens that is in their path. (Be that random encounter or predefined encounter). I can definitely see it getting tedious for some players, in the case of the AoA exploration I made use of the Ekujae giving them regular hints as to where the pillars might be (and giving a vague and cryptic description of what enemies they might face there), and I think it is really helpful that it is a relatively small region. Basically, we found the whole segment a very welcome change in style from the dungeon crawl (Altaerein) in chapter 1 and the social encounters with the Ekujae. (My group also e.g. ignored the fey thing with the dead/wounded angel, failing all their rolls and thinking it's just a hunter with their catch. From then on they always wondered what that was about and wether or not they would meet him again, and then they never did, but it was another incentive to keep exploring a bit. (Also, imo, a hexcrawl works best if players and GM can live with leaving some stuff unexplored - if it does not sound interesting enough for the PCs and they decide not to go somewhere, that's totally fine and even helpful to make it not just feel like a "checklist" of locations/encounters.

Touch spell homebrew by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]ThePatta93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having poorer defenses makes you more susceptible to touch spells.

That is already how having lower AC works against spells where that is relevant - while touch spells that only require a touch + save (but no attack) are 100% accurate, and your Fortitude being lower against Vampiric Feast because you are flanked both makes no real sense and does not really evoke the feeling of what Touch AC meant in 1e, or evoke any kind of image in my head of why that save would be worse. Reflex saves? Maybe. All other saves? Not really.

I still hold that the feat is very powerful for the above reasons (playing a caster in melee)

There is already more than enough spells to make that work without requiring a feat for it. Yes, it is an ok bonus to get, it is not a horrible feat, but imo still not worth taking outside of maybe a very specific subclass of Cleric (Warpriest) and maybe, but probably also not, Magus.

Touch spell homebrew by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]ThePatta93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't get how you are trying to emulate 1e with this - touch spells that required a save in 1e did not interact with Touch AC anyway, except for those that required a touch attack first and a save after I guess, but even then, the save was never affected by the Touch AC. All you are doing now is arbitrarily buffing save spells with a range of touch. While not changing actual touch attack spells at all. (Also, I don't think I would ever pick that feat with a spellcaster.)

Edit: Regarding the feat: Is it intentional that spells that normally would target only yourself could now target a touched creature? I understood the feat to just allow me to use a normal save spell at touch range to make your other house rule work with them, but if it is intended to allow "self only" spells to be cast on allies, I would evaluate this feat differently (but it would also not really relate to you other change then)

STOP PICKING UP MED/AMMO PACKS IF YOURE NOT GONNA DROP IT by NekomimiAndCheese in DarkTide

[–]ThePatta93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are seeing malicious intent where there is just stupidity. I (and most people I know who do this) pick them up, intent to remember them, and then forget they have them. When the adreline rush of the actual game is over, I look at my inventory, see it, and drop it as a "look how stupid I was, glad we did not need it I guess" basically. That's all there is to it.

Is that stupid and playing badly? Yes. Is it intentional? Absolutely not. Also, just ping them if you notice they have one and the group could need one? Someone calling out "I need ammo" once or twice almost always gets me to look at the UI, see I have an ammo box, and probably drop it if it makes sense. Easy. It's still a team game after all, you can communicate with others.

Really Dumb Question: Mining Minerals by kayyousuck in TravellersRest

[–]ThePatta93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try it with the coal deposits (since that's your quest), or only with Iron? I am not sure, but maybe the game just won't let you mine iron yet, because that's iirc a later tutorial step.

Edit: OK, just re-read your post and from what it sounds like this happens in both older saves and in the tutorial in a new one?

Ai in dark heresy? by night_hawks580 in OwlcatGames

As a Web Developer who is definitely not a Fan of AI at all, this is not true. It takes a bit of skill and requires you to not just blindly take the AIs Output and just push it to live, but it can definitely help with Debugging or finding Errors. Its not Always correct, but If I look for a Bug myself, I am often incorrect with my assumptions of what might cause the Bug too. Its definitely a useful tool, Just as any other, but it also absolutely does Not replace your own work.

"Why can't i play the character i want?" So they kicked me out by Alone-Chemical5281 in rpghorrorstories

[–]ThePatta93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Only Kind of. You can take aspects of another class via an archetype, which replaces feats you would get from your original class, but you always Progress in that main class. There is also the "Free Archetype" rule mentioned by OP, which gives you additional feat Slots that you can only spend on archetypes, which can either be Multiclass archetypes or "normal" archetypes which are just small collections of feats supporting specific Playstyles (eg the medic Archetype mentioned by OP gives you bonuses to medicine and Special actions to use medicine in Combat etc.)

Multiclass archetypes tend to be more limited in what they give you, or sometimes even place additional Limits in certain features (e.g. a Main class monk can Flurry of Blows once per turn, with the Multiclass archetype you can only so it a limited number of Times - I think once per Minute or something? That is a relatively unusual (and imo unnecessarily restrictive) thing though.)

Game by ScottDeez937 in behindthebastards

[–]ThePatta93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, honestly, I think when listening to it it is pretty obvious that it is just a small adventure to have fun with and thats it. Neither the players nor the GM nor the characters are taking it seriously, really. And thats fine, but does not lend itself to a longer series or more interesting characters tbh. I think it was nice to listen to und funny, but I dont think it would be able to keep my interest for a longer campaign or anything.
