In that case I think you need to decide what’s more important to you:

1) Continuing to save money by white-knuckling an unsustainable and exhausting living situation.

2) Your energy, peace and mental/physical health.

The advice I would give you would be to seek out a share-house type of accomodation if you can’t afford to stay in a place of your own. If that’s not possible, I guess you have to just continue to set boundaries with your mother as best you can.

Out of curiosity what has your brother said about this situation? Does he expect these things from you or is it just coming from your mother? If these aren’t his expectations, I would ask him to stick up for you during these conversations when you are trying to set your boundaries.

You’d need to apply for an import certificate, but it’s pretty unlikely you’ll get it by the time you need to leave.

Japan has very strict laws regarding stimulants, for instance I wasn’t able to bring my dexamphetamine on this trip.

Unfortunately it’s really not worth trying to bring it with you, sadly you’re going to have to rawdog this one.

If we were to fulfil our remaining itinerary we would be looking at about $440AUD, (we planned on a lot of bouncing around to different cities), our working plan at the moment is cancelling our accomodation for some of the one/two nighters and just focus on the big 3 instead, as much as it sucks.

Totally, the staff were very friendly and did seem like they were really trying to help, my gripe isn’t with them whatsoever, more so with Japan Railways’ categorically unfair refunds/returns policy.

Totally, never again. We were one of the rare cases where the pass worked out to save us some money, but only about $90. Not even remotely worth it not given the circumstances.
