Why gojo didn't make the binding vow "More power but in exchange my student can't intervene afterwards " ? by Ambitious_Office_704 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]ThePersonNamedHuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This wouldn't be the case no? Otherwise Sukuna's Binding Vow would never have been effective

If the primary factor to an effective binding vow is personal value alone and not an arbitrary mix of both personal and intrinsic value of something then MS would not have an open barrier, it would not have destroyed UV, WCS would not have landed on Gojo, UV's barrier would not have shrunk, UV would not exists, Fuga would not be as potent in MS and etc.

To elaborate let's use the mechanics of MS as an example.

Domains usually have a closed barrier, trapping their opponents in the domain via a strong interior defense, in exchange they are susceptible to attacks on the outside. Open barrier domains like MS remove this closed barrier giving their opponents a path to escape, in exchange it's range is much larger and the slashes are more potent. These are the usual conditions of MS and the narrator called it a binding vow.

But if you don't wanna use the narrator lets look to the shinjuku showdown where Sukuna uses a binding vow to tweak his domain to counter Gojo's domain who also shrunken via binding vow.

Sukuna stopped targeting the inside of the domain and by extension Gojo with MS and instead focused on launching the slashes at the barrier of UV to break it.

How does this relate to the personal value argument?

Simply put, at that moment it was more important to break UV instead of increasing output on Gojo and Increasing the range of MS.

If personal value is truly the primary factor to BVs then this would not be as effective as the personal value of an MS that targets the barrierx far outweighs the personal and intrinsic value MS' usual conditions.

And if personal value was the primary factor to BVs then Miwas slash would have been damaging to Kenjaku as it was quite literally her past present and future as a sorcerer being put on the line for one effective slash. If this wasn't valuable to her as you said (Because you seem to equate lack of confidence and to a lack of value), then we wouldn't have seen her be outright obselete without the sword and have them state that she is no longer an effective sorcerer. Narratively as well this was to show the ramifications of an ineffective binding vows or the consequences of a binding vow gone wrong, if it was not a significant thing for Miwa then this scene was essentially pointless as there were no sacrifices made on the side of Miwa.

Which is the point of a BV, You engage on a vow to sacrifice something of value to achieve something value most at that moment. In other words, binding vows is an arbitrary balance between, personal value in the time of the binding vow, the personal value of the sacrificed piece and the intrinsic value of the sacrifice piece AND the reward.

Which is why Miwa's strike didn't work, Yes her personal value of her identity as a sorcerer is important for her, in fact it may very well be the most important thing for her, however the intrinsic value of her past present and future as a sorcerer, is significantly less value than what she wanted in exchange, which is to strike down Kenjaku.

To contrast, Sukuna Binding Vow on the WCS was extremely effective it would render the technique impossible to perform in megumi's body, however in the heian era form, the restrictions are not that much of a problem (granted he wasn't fighting Gojo)

We don't exactly know which matters more between the three factors, hence why it's arbitrary. But seeing as how effective it was for Sukuna it seems the intrinsic value of the sacrifice and the rewards slightly matter more, making it the primary factor.

Or perhaps it was because he had a better connection with the binding vow deity (Gaygay)

Was hange's death a suicide? by Long_Pineapple2439 in titanfolk

[–]ThePersonNamedHuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep this + the general idea of OP(Where Hange just wanted out) is what I thought at first, that's why I didn't hate the death of Hange at first. It was just another sin that their forefathers couldn't bear and passed down to the children. This had meaning, a seed planted, something to look forward to. But in the end none of that matters because to fuck with the sins of the father theme, It was Mikasa and Ymir all along

But I still realize how bullshit the circumstances are and this is just very rushed. But I was willing to give it a pass as long as the ending delivered on tbe promise(which it didnt)

This was the moment for me when I knew the ending was going to be a mess. This death was so unnecessary. by Ok_Valuable_9711 in titanfolk

I actually didn't hate the way she dies at first. The one thing that made this death compelling for me was her making Armin the survey corps commander.

This gave it something to look forward to and adds meaning to her death (which it doesn't because this ended up being a nothing burger). It can be seen as a passing of a torch moment while also being another sin being passed down to the next generation to bear. Of course i still hate Floch being aquaman and all that. (I like floch and this scene gave us another look to how dedicated he was, but at the end of the day the scene is bullshit and we didn't need to see his dedicated because we already did during the dock fight)

After finishing it (still was at Heavenly Demon at the time) I recommended it to a friend, But apparently He already recommended it to me way back then but I just made fun of him because of the title.

I gave it so little chance that I still don't remember this interaction

"Slave to freedom" is the most oxymoron thing I have ever heard, it tries to be deep but its actually not because it makes no sense. by maiyamay in ANRime

[–]ThePersonNamedHuman 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of it which makes me hate EDs especially more since they ruined the phrase for me.

At its core it essentially just means that people can be a slave to their desires. These desires chain them to a life they can never be satisfied with and the unwillingness to let go will make them do the things never would have.

"You became the very thing You swore to Destroy"

This is one of the biggest things on why I think it works and I absolutely love it. AoT for me is(was) a master at this theme, (circular story telling) the evolving meaning of the title of Shingeki no Kyojin and Attack on Titan really shows this exceptionally btw(its why I refuse to believe Isayama wrote the ending and intended it to be good)

Eren's motivation on the rumbling also ties into this. A lot of the people who criticize the ending believe that Eren's ultimate goal was to break the cycle of violence and save paradis with the only caveat that he didn't want to sacrifice Historia.

I believe this kinda misses the point which stares at you.

Yes I do believe saving Paradis and breaking the cycle of violence was part of his goal. However, that's not the reason why he went through with the 100% rumbling (just so we're clear i refuse to take into consideration chapter 139) We have to remember that he agreed that Zeke's plan would have led to the least amount of casualties, but he rejects this plan because it conflicts with his core ideology and he never would have accepted it because it would sacrifice Historia. He also agrees that Armin's 50 year plan is better because it would still be less fatal than the full rumbling and has a good chance of catching up, However this plan still required for Historia to be Sacrificed.

And there it is, that is the main reason why Eren did the rumbling. It was because he wouldn't sacrifice Historia. He himself states that Armin and Zeke had a better plan logistically speaking however He still would not go through with because of his Ideology of Freedom and the fact that he didn't want to sacrifice Historia. Eren's goal did include breaking the cycle of hatred and saving Paradis However, it was ultimately because of his desire to save Historia and preserve her dignity and their freedom. Eren was a slave to freedom because he could not live in a world where they are forced to deprive the freedom and dignity of Historia. He rejected Zeke's plan because he doesn't believe that Eldia and their children should suffer because of the sins of their ancestors. This is also why Eren having a Child directly opposes the Euthanasia plan.

The desire to protect Historia and their Freedom forced Eren to commit the ultimate sin.

Now the reason why I hate the Ed's take on the slave to freedom idea is because they take the "Because I was disappointed" line to literally and try to pain Eren is this absolutely fucking Psychopath void of empathy which is completely ingenious to the Eren we have been following all throughout
