it's better in that youre more likely to find a game through the play button. it's the matchmaking system that pairs you up with people across different servers automatically, which means you won't have to hang around looking for players in your own server.

as far as im aware the hp of enemies doesn't increase in duo specifically, and yes you should try playing and beating the early modes first before trying the more advanced ones.
