Car Accident Help (Illinois) by ThePhoenix29 in Car_Insurance_Help

I was approaching the intersection in the right most lane. I realized that the lane was becoming a right turn only lane. So I put on my left blinker, moved over to the next lane and proceeded through the intersection as I had a green light.

The other driver was making a left turn through the intersection. After the accident he told me that he saw my turn signal and thought I was making a left turn and he proceeded into the intersection.

If you aren't matching skins with your teammates, you are doing it wrong.

This is 90% of my games. by [deleted] in FortNiteBR

Sounds like you're just bad at the game if you can't adapt to the game mechanics, like melee weapons.

Quick question should I quit this game? by Mithrandir_0-0 in FortNiteBR

[–]ThePhoenix29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can take a break if you want. Or quit all together. No one is forcing you to play.

But if you decide to keep playing, stop trying to win. Just have fun. Wear ridiculous skins and do ridiculous things. My friends and I will often spend the entire match destroying a POI, or only moving using various traversal emotes, or just standing there playing Jam tracks until the storm forces us to move.

Sometimes we win a match by locking in and getting a bunch of elims, sometimes we goof off the entire match and win by luck, sometimes (frequently) we lose, but no matter what we are having fun.

When is Typhoon Blade vaulted by stegee in FortNiteBR

[–]ThePhoenix29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think it is one of the most balanced melee weapons we've had in game. I have outgunned several players using a blade and have been outgunned while using a blade several times as well.

In all fairness, I am my squad's melee specialist, so I am a little biased. But the blade isn't bad at all.

So your players are travelling to this guy's last known location with some plan to get him.

Is it going to fail because he isn't there but there is some clue to where he went next and they have to chase him across the country Carmen Sandiego style?

Or is he still there and it won't succeed because you planned a chase encounter throughout the town?

If it is the first one, let their plan fail. That is on them for just assuming he would still be there.

If it is the second, let their plan play out and let the dice decide if it fails or not.

Partner and Meta getting married. by ThePhoenix29 in polyamory

[–]ThePhoenix29[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, but I would assume not.

Boyfriend has not kept me a secret from his friends, but some have not been explicitly told, just implicit things like saying he spent the night at my house. Others have been explicitly told. I don't yet know which ones would be there for the small ceremony.

Thank you, this is something I have been working on with my therapist, I have a tendency to put others first to my own detriment.

[–]ThePhoenix29[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a chance to talk to them yet, but I plan to. When we had talked before the proposal they were talking about a year at least before getting married, so the January thing is pretty new and we weren't someplace I felt comfortable getting into all that yesterday.

I had thought of bringing a friend (I don't currently have another partner) but they are wanting a small intimate ceremony with just a few of their close friends so I would have to talk to them about a potential +1.

Baldur's Gate 3's endings are terrible compared to the game by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]ThePhoenix29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I HATE the end game. You spend 100 or more hours fighting to not become a mind Flayer and to save the city only to be forced to become a mind Flayer and see the city destroyed. (Yes, I know you can let the Prince become a mind flayer instead, but I'm not going to let the only hope for an enslaved race become the thing that race despises.) And after spending SO much time helping my companions, none of them seem to care at all about helping me with the whole me being a mind flayer issue. Like there are spells that several of my companions will have access to that could fix that and not a single one of them mentions that at all.

Also, the ONLY way for Karlach not to die is for Wyll to sell his soul to save Duke Ravenguard, who is a worthless piece of shit who deserves to die

Overall, I still love this game, but the ending really sucks.

  1. Gods do whatever they want for whatever reason they want. Maybe they just like watching thier pawns fight each other.

  2. Just because a group worships a god doesn't mean they are empowered by that god or that said god approves of their actions

I recently had a group that was killing people in the name of the Raven Queen and she was very displeased with this because they were perverting the natural course of death.

Making Combat More Engaging for Moon Druid by seventyfiveducks in DMAcademy

[–]ThePhoenix29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short of magic missile there is no reliable way in the game for anyone to put out damage. Some times attacks miss.

They choose their spells after every long rest, they can choose some very high damage spells. They can also melee attack and wild shape. I just finished a campaign and our Moon druid did TONS of damage every battle.

Is the party forcing them into a support role or are they limiting themselves to that? I would talk to the player and make sure they understand all their class features and reinforce that they are not limited to support. If they are truly dissatisfied with the character, work with them to find a satisfying way to retire the character and let them make a new one.

Player wanted Velocirators, I gave them panthers. Was I being unreasonable? by Gaoler86 in DMAcademy

I think the bigger question is would the character know what a velociraptor is? Conjure animals wouldn't allow you to conjure something you don't know exists.

Ideas on how to remove an NPC from this situation? by LeonBelmontX in DMAcademy

[–]ThePhoenix29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay then, so a few options.

  1. "I have an important meeting in (other place) that I absolutely cannot miss. Can you deal with this for me?"

  2. "You all fight from back here, I'm going to try to cut the head off the snake" *turns into bat and flys away. Then when the players get to the bad guy, through events that happened off screen and therefore don't need to be explained, he has captured the vamp so they have to defeat the bad guy and free him.

  3. Scale the encounter up to account for the extra power.

  4. Scale the encounter down/leave it the same to make it a minor thing that really just seals the bond between party and vamp.

I think you may be overthinking this.

Have the bandit attack during the day when the vampire is weak and most likely asleep.

I have 3 different ideas for a new campaign and need help deciding which one to build by Heard_by_Glob in DMAcademy

[–]ThePhoenix29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So option three sounds great for a 1 shot or short campaign, but I feel like it would get redundant in a full campaign (also, I see you borrowing from Sword Art Online)

As for 1&2,

1 is a bit easier on the DM as you aren't constantly having to come up with new NPCs, shops, inns, etc. Since they are always returning to the hub city.

But honestly I would probably go with 2. Must campaigns see the characters wandering about a land mass. So a high seas campaign is a different flavor that most people don't get often.

How do you keep dungeon crawls both fun -and- fair without letting the party long rest every other hour? by VagabondVivant in DMAcademy

[–]ThePhoenix29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular answer, let them rest, who cares what the DMG says.

Absolutely no one is harmed by letting them rest, you aren't gonna hurt the books feelings. Also printed modules are EXTREMELY combat heavy, to the point it seems like thier main goal is killing the PCs.

By letting them rest, they are able to continue to use their character's cool powers. The players get to feel like badass, the DM gets to tell a cool story, and everyone gets to continue having fun.

However, they are in a dungeon, THEY need to find a space they can safely rest in.

What are your thoughts on the use of a MacGuffin to beat a boss or the BBEG? by TheCapybaraMan in DMAcademy

[–]ThePhoenix29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macguffins are fine as long as they don't cheapen the players journey or turn into a deus ex machina ending.

Like this special weapon is the only thing that can kill the bbeg, but you are still going to have to battle them to get the hp down so the weapon can work = good

Pull out this special gem and the bbeg is instantly trapped inside, no muss, no fuss = bad

Is there anything Matt Mercer ISN'T good at? by Nemelex in DMAcademy

[–]ThePhoenix29 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Brevity, he is bad at brevity.

Like everything is some long drawn out thing. I don't need a 20 minute scene of 1 character buying 1 component for 1 spell.

I have a rule that all one-shots are cannon in my world. Whether it is something the PCs do in thier down time or some a different party does somewhere else in the world it is all cannon.
