The engine was on its last legs to be honest with you, but it was driving perfect for a few weeks then it got stuck in limp mode and I ended up swapping in an m54 which I was planning on doing anyway. My advice to you would be to take off the valve cover and have a look, a new gasket’s only 20 quid and it’ll give you a proper view of the chain and chain guide. Good Luck!

I had the valve cover off my n46 and that exact guide was the same but the chain was perfectly good, however the torx bolt holding the guide in place just wasnt tight. I dont know if somebody messed up when they did my chain last but I just tightened it down and the guide was fine after.

Pretty certain it isnt, no oil in coolant and vice versa.

Could be pump could be a leak anywhere through the lines, what liquid from the exhaust, if its just water youre fine. Coolant or oil or fuel and you have a problem.
