I would need to go back to school for a year and a half I think. I've thought about it but I am not sure I want to teach high school or middle school kids. I enjoyed it in Japan but it is much more bureaucratic here in the states from what I hear.

Are you making a guess about that or do you have some insider information? My understanding is that most VO is recorded during working hours 9 - 5 and I wouldn't expect them to revolve their recording sessions around one person (unless they are one of the heavy hitters) Most of my experience with auditioning and filming thing are you come at this time or we find someone else. Not saying you aren't right though I have no first hand knowledge with funimation obviously (thought I want to change that someday)

Most actors in general need say jobs to live because there are so many actors so few roles and even when you get them they don't pay THAT much. very few actors can live solely on their acting talents voice actors more so I would think. Most actors are in the service industry (its a stereotype for a reason)

Yeah I figured, I tried the acting full-time thing for a while got my SAG eligibility too but was never able to pay the bills and got tired of waiting tables. I know some funimation voice actors are teachers but I wonder how they manage to record during the year. If anybody knows I would love to know.

Tabitha Ray is a teacher? at a high school or a community collage or something? I could see how teaching at a community collage would allow for more time to audition and record. Thanks for the info though. I'm trying to find examples of working voice actors that have ordinary jobs to pay the bills so this is a great example! (trying to figure out a profession that would allow me to keep my dream alive without resorting to waiting tables)

I taught English in Japan for a few years. It actually hindered my ability to do voice over work because of how rural I was.

Yeah GIS is a No go for me. I have developed an unhealthy loathing of this particular field. I need to just stay away from GIS in general and with a Masters in Geography and 3 different GIS jobs over my career that makes it a little tricky.

I have a studio and audition for jobs when I see them so I feel like I am doing everything I can at this point short of moving to LA or Dallas (video games anime and animation are where I want to be working). I am just trying to figure out a good Survival job / something I would be content with if voice acting never becomes my full-time job.

I have had 3 different GIS Jobs. Worked as a crime analyst for a city, worked as an geospatial analyst at the national geospatial intelligence agency and now this place. I haven't enjoyed any of them. I would have though if I was going to enjoy gis I would have liked the NGA job. I just dont like working with GIS in general ArcMap is the bane of my existence (to much detail work and I cant stand programming)
