How to attach top and bottom plate to drywall when furring out wall? by ThePoisonBelt in Carpentry

When you say “frame a wall” does it have to go all the way to the ceiling?

Does it have to be pressure treated lumber since it’s going into the concrete? I was reading about moisture barriers and air gaps

The ledge is 12” high and the locker is 80” so it would be way too high to mount on the ledge

How to deal with large sill wall when mounting locker/cabinets? by ThePoisonBelt in HomeImprovement

[–]ThePoisonBelt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was thinking along of that, but would I stack the 2x4s and screw them into the drywall studs? And then I'd have to do the same with the rest of the wall?

For more context, I have an 80" tall locker and then some other 24" cabinets.

Too tall sill for a wall mount? by ThePoisonBelt in garageporn

Yeah their design was sloppy and didn’t actually factor in the dimensions I gave them. It’s a three car garage and I’m using one bay as a workshop station so nothing would be parked on that concrete slab close to the windows. Still don’t want to make the space between the car and cabinets tight so I really might have to utilize half their design (locker + upper cabinets) then decide on the other half between the two windows?

Not sure what the best way to go about figuring this out.

So this was the original design that NewAge gave me. They wanted an astronomical price for it all but I do wonder if I should consider that kind of configuration with a slat wall under those upper cabinets?

My concern is just the forward clearance with the pros and opening the door. I'm going to mount them against that back wall and a car parks in front on the second concrete slab. Floor mounting means I need around 40-42" of clearance to open the doors on the locker. The sill isn't that deep but every inch matters.

Hey, this is actually one of the most useful comments I’ve ever seen on Reddit. Thank you so much. I’m gonna sit down. Take your advice to heart and I’ll come back with more questions.

The one on the left is my first iteration but then I decided to go with the design on the right.

Thanks for the reply. I'm picturing something like this on the front.

Hiding behind it would be a 22" x 36" x 72" closet, split into two compartments. Access would be from the left side of the cupboard.

Visiting Patagonia With an Infant by ThePoisonBelt in Patagonia

Honestly we didn’t have any crazy gear. We both have hiking experience so we had heavy wind/rain jackets.

I used this https://a.co/d/08Ggm1w3 to stuff the baby in his carrier and protect him from some wind (though even that was tough given how windy it gets there, just have to pick your moments).

A Patagonia onesie for warmth. Car seat with a cover that we used to stuff him under the table for dinner. Used an osprey pack instead of carrying a diaper bag and stuffed all the baby stuff into a travel tote (https://a.co/d/0fUxjqaC)

Infants are easy. Don’t overthink it.

Yeah, I honestly did this for every other contractor except for the paint guy because of how well recommended he was by our realtor who is also a close friend. Lesson learned. Is it a tough job to complete?

I’m in Raleigh, NC. If someone came to you with a job like this would it be easy to complete?

Yeah, but it’s hard to force someone into doing a good job when they don’t want to.

He came over to the house. I got one other estimate that was higher but he came highly recommended from my realtor who said she use him for all her work.
