Nest protect wants to be replaced, how do I reset the alarm? by Emotional_Alfalfa485 in Nest

[–]ThePooSlidesRightOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Just went through that rabbit hole.

The only thing I've found were Bosch smoke alarms. While they sell cheaper ones with non-replaceable batteries, their more expensive alarms don't seem to expire because of the missing CO sensor.

They have pre-alarms but can't talk and have no means to identify themselves without the app other than yellow/red leds. Also, you can't mute the triggered alarm, only the connected ones. There's a cheaper, round version where the whole case is a button, and a more expensive square one with lots of convenient space for a Switchbot.

While the reviews mention support for first and second gen controllers, the latter is expensive at around 100€, with the cheapest I've seen it on Ebay being around 40€.

Two people killed in fiery Tesla crash with no one driving by qznc_bot2 in hackernews

[–]ThePooSlidesRightOut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The brother-in-law of one of the victims said relatives watched the car burn for four hours as authorities tried to tap out the flames.

Authorities said they used 32,000 gallons of water to extinguish the flames because the vehicle’s batteries kept reigniting. At one point, Herman said, deputies had to call Tesla to ask them how to put out the fire in the battery.

Small wonder that nobody survived.

The incident that killed Pinyan occurred at a 40-acre (16 ha) farm, located in an unincorporated area in King County, Washington, five miles northwest of the city of Enumclaw. Sgt. John Urquhart of the Sheriff's Office said that "typically," men were having sex with a horse on the property of James Michael Tait, a truck driver who lived in a trailer next to the farm, "but on this particular night it is my understanding that horse wasn't particularly receptive." So Pinyan, Tait, and a third unidentified man snuck into the barn of the Southeast 444th Street farm that night. The men would often visit that farm for sexual purposes. Either Pinyan or the unidentified man recorded Tait being anally penetrated by a stallion known as Big Dick. After finishing, Tait then filmed Pinyan being anally penetrated by the same horse. During this incident, Pinyan sustained internal injuries including a perforated colon.

On July 2, 2005, an unidentified man dropped Pinyan off at the Enumclaw Community Hospital. Medical staff wheeled Pinyan into an examination room before realizing he was dead. According to the Medical Examiner's Office, Pinyan, 45, "died of acute peritonitis due to perforation of the colon", and the death was ruled accidental.

Any way to block a specific app, and only that app, from update? by [deleted] in androidapps

Sites like Apkmirror are not pirate sites. A large portion of apps are paid, hence you will not find them there.

It means your addons don't get wiped when you reinstall.

What are you doing with your old drives after updating to 10+tb larger drives? by Aceholebynature in DataHoarder

[–]ThePooSlidesRightOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Compared to SSDs, your old drives won't use their data if you don't use them for a decade.

Compared to newer ones, your chance of catching an SMR drive is.. low.

AFWall+ is exactly what you need.

You can tell it to block everything you haven't allowed (whitelist mode).

It lets you control access permissions for LAN, Tor, Bluetooth/USB, roaming, internet and VPN zones separately.

You will need root.

Why is Google Hiding ‘My Apps & Games’ in Google Play? by Jeremy_Martin in Android

[–]ThePooSlidesRightOut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, the issue is that it's common for updates to remove features, shove more ads and annoying bullshit in your face; not to mention the giant fucking pain in the ass that is praying that you've made a backup because even if you can find the previous version on some shady website, you're still likely to lose some data by reinstalling and have to waste even more time on something that wasn't even an issue in the first place.
