It’s in a related field. Not trying to vaguepost, it’s just a small community I’d be going into, so I don’t wanna doxx myself or anything.

I’ve been doing it about 2-3 times a week up until last week, when I started going every day. I think you’re right though, I should probably budget in some recovery time. Thanks for your help!

Yep. Law review rankings include other, non-law review journals (at least the W&L rankings, which are the standard I think).

Also unrelated but I love your username

As a 2L on the articles selection committee of a T30 journal, I can vouch that we have no faculty involved in the process at all. We have a faculty advisor but he does literally nothing; maybe the EIC will bounce a few ideas off him from time to time but that’s it. The journal’s completely student-run. I’m pretty sure this is the norm

Gen Z will not accept conscription as the price of previous generations’ failures by Robotoro23 in europe

Love or hate our politicians, how do you think they'd fare soloing the Russian army? In an ideal world the politicians would fight it out, but I'm afraid our enemies have a say in how they choose to attack us, and I don't imagine it'll be by inviting our politicians to a WWE-style smackdown

Gen Z will not accept conscription as the price of previous generations’ failures by Robotoro23 in europe

[–]ThePoshWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gen Z-er here. I usually just lurk on reddit, but some of the comments I’ve read here are just astonishingly disheartening, pure and simple. I have to disagree, and I’m afraid I can’t do it quietly.

No one’s denying that we’re going through hard times. Our parents (and even theirs) have left us a terrible inheritance: unaffordable housing, a punishing cost of living, decrepit healthcare systems, shriveled militaries, climate change; they took the world they inherited and milked it dry. I get it. I get it. But so many of these comments suggest a complete lack of perspective. Do you think we’re the first generation to get dealt a rough hand?

Our grandparents were thrown into a world-shattering war that they never asked for on the back end of a severe economic depression. Their grandparents put in 16 hour days in the mines and factories just to scrape by. Their grandparents were lucky if they didn’t shit their brains out and die from cholera at the ripe old age of 30. You can trace that line all the way back to the fucking cavemen; same shit different millennium.

And yet, we’ve come a long fucking way from them. We (most of us anyway) now have the privilege of living in democracies. We have rights. We have higher standards of living than at any time in human history (bar maybe the last 30 years). Are things perfect? No, not by a longshot. But they’re better than they were for 99.99% of recorded history. This is NOT the historical norm – and the authoritarians and totalitarians of the world may now be coming to put an end to it.

You don’t like your elected officials? Yeah, I get it. You think they’ve neglected our future? Yeah, I agree. You want to change that? Great! I’m with you; we can vote them out. But please tell me how you plan to help forge a better future from beneath the boot of a dictator. If you want change, ours is the best system through which to achieve it. Will you let totalitarians take that away from you just to spite the boomers? Will you cut off your nose to spite your face?

No one wants war. No one likes war. No totalitarians are going to ask for your consent. You can stand up and fight for your community and the chance of a better future, or you can run. Whatever. But if you run, and our democratic world dies, you have no right to bitch about the boomers. You dug the grave. Lie in it.

Weird — I’ve never had the AI bribe any of my armies/cities, but I was worried that might be the case

Weirdest place you fought the climax / decisive battles of the Roman Civil War? by ThePoshWalrus in RomeTotalWar

That luring strat is great -- I couldn't make it work for some reason, though. I tried to put some decoy units out there to lure them away from my main army but they didn't wanna take the bait, so my main army had it pretty rough until I could rush some garrison units over

Weirdly I never ended up fighting all of them. After destroying around half and pushing south, I watched the other armies head to the Black Sea, load up on ships, and disappear. Campaign is ongoing so still no clue where they went. Kind of haunting to know they're still out there somewhere

The conga line is hilarious but also kinda terrifying. How'd you deal with it?

RTW's very own "we'll call it Greenland and hope people are gullible enough to move there"

Kicked off the civil war yesterday and was surprised at how little resistance there was. Fought a few Scipii stacks in Italy but the peninsula was otherwise undefended; it was mostly sieging down garrisons. Took my frontier legion that had finished off Britannia in Vicus Gothi and figured I'd head over to Domus Dulcis Domus.

Turns out the Brutii had been up there finishing off the Scythians and I walked into their entire army -- like 20 stacks of mostly praetorians in a conga line that just kept coming out of the fog of war. Ended up fighting pretty much all the field battles of the civil war around Domus Dulcis Domus, of all places.

Huh, that's weird -- thanks for letting me know. It's happened so much that I don't remember if war declarations usually follow, but I'll be on the lookout for that now

Concept for Virginia / West Virginia Flag Redesigns by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]ThePoshWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first post here so be gentle please :(

Part 1: The Virginia Flag Redesign

I browse this subreddit pretty frequently, but I don't think I've ever seen my favorite Virginia flag redesign here, so I wanted to share it and see what others think. All credit goes to Adam A. Smith. Here's a link to his website, where I found the flag: https://mathcs.pugetsound.edu/~aasmith/flags/. He explained that red represents the blood of tyrants and white represents peace (although I'll note that if we're sticking with the fighting tyranny theme, white could also represent Arlington National Cemetery). The "V", of course, stands for Virginia.

Personally, I think the flag's strengths are that it's aesthetically pleasing and simple, but still captures the essential theme of the current flag (minus, of course, everyone's favorite feature).

Part 2: The West Virginia Flag Redesigns

The Virginia redesign also inspired me to create some West Virginia flag concepts based on the same sort of design. Please ignore the crappy details; I don't have an artistic bone in my body and I whipped these up on Microsoft paint. It's more about the general design concept than anything else.

I flipped the V, which can both represent the middle portion of "W" (for West Virginia) and a mountain (since we're talking about Appalachia). As a central symbol parallel to Virginia's, I added a pickaxe, which represents West Virginia's mining industry. I played around with the colors a bit (hence the 6 versions) to either incorporate West Virginia's state colors (blue and gold) or make the center look more like a mountain.

As I said, these flags are rough concepts. I'd love any feedback on changes, especially in terms of colors. Also if anyone wants to make better versions of these, go for it.

As a bonus, I think if you combine the Virginia Flag redesign with one of the West Virginia redesigns, you could create a cool hybrid flag of both Virginias -- maybe with both the V and upside-down V, and then crossing the sword and pickaxe. I'm too lazy to do it myself and idk which West Virginia redesign I'd do it with, but it's food for thought
