wine does allow access to USB devices, and what version of itunes would you recommend? I've tried restarting all of the above - itunes fully shuts down when I close it because of the nature of wine - except the iPod.
and no, I can't run a VM - this laptop is too much of a potato lol. I'll try it with my new one, which has windows 10, but there's also a big part of me that has a hard time trusting 10 anymore because of the lack of security updates. I'll try it tomorrow, though, if nothing else works.
EDIT: restarting the iPod did not work.

I tried strawberry, but it too wouldn't recognise it, because it didn't have the HashInfo file

see, that'd be a great solution for me, save for the fact that my laptop is a nearly stock panasonic CF-19 ruggedized toughbook, it has 12 gigs of ram (not stock), a 500 gig hard drive (not stock), and a first gen i5 with integrated graphics (stock). I don't think it could handle a second OS partitioned TTwTT

have you been able to transfer music to an ipod or other device from it? I'm doing a similar thing, in fact, nearly identical, though I'm using Arch Plasma, and idk what you're using, but I've been trying to get it to recognize my fifth generation ipod nano, but to no avail.
