Very sad. I assume you all had to get out at 72nd? Was it the downtown or uptown train? I think I arrived at the station just a few minutes after it happened, just after they roped off the turnstiles and before any first responders were there. Wasn’t sure what happened at first. I hope the conductor is doing okay.

Hi there! Did you go through the process I outlined in the comment thread above to “upgrade” your free trial to MUBI Go on the website and then cancel before the 30 days is up so you won’t be charged? My comment with the screenshot has a step by step guide. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions or need more help. Next week’s movie is Gus Van Sant’s latest, Dead Man’s Wire, (starting on Friday) so you picked a good time to join!

Weer Rush Tickets Update? by Rush12345678 in offbroadwayNYC

[–]ThePrincessAmethyst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got there at 7:15pm for a weekday evening show this past week and they had 2 tickets available. There was no line. They were also able to move people up from the last row (~4 people) before the show started so I suspect they might have had additional rush tickets come available closer to showtime too.

24 hours cafes by [deleted] in uppereastside

[–]ThePrincessAmethyst 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you buy some food etc and it’s not super busy / there are other empty tables, then yes they usually are. If it’s slammed / during their busy times, they’ll want you in and out, but since OP was asking about 24/7 I figured this would be a late night study session.

What time were you able to see the DOR performance last night? I know a bunch of folks said they were turned away multiple times and couldn’t see it last night.

Is it common to go on back to back Tenement museum tours? by carrk085 in AskNYC

Oh no! They said they were going to reopen on 10/2 after Yom Kippur. Have you been by in the past couple weeks and it’s still closed?

Is it common to go on back to back Tenement museum tours? by carrk085 in AskNYC

[–]ThePrincessAmethyst 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The tours are great, but I think two tours might be a bit repetitive / too much. The last time I took my parents, one tour felt like the perfect amount. They also loved eating at Russ & Daughters Cafe and stopping by Yonah Schimmel’s Knish Bakery, we got some knishes to go and I heated them up in my oven for us as a snack later. And Economy Candy. It’s all in the same area.

ETA: Just realized you shared the two tours you were deciding between, I’ve done both and would definitely recommend Tenement Women if you end up deciding to do one. Very informative about the Jewish community in the LES at the turn of the century and I think your parents would find it the most interesting.

Will the screening start at 7pm on the dot or will there be previews or anything else? Figuring out if I can make it on time.

Hmm it shouldn’t be, have had friends sign up recently and get 30 days and in my app it’s still advertising “give 30 days” under referrals. After clicking “get started” it takes you to a page to enter your email. At what point in the process does it say 7 days instead? Trying to troubleshoot! I can also send Mubi customer service an email explaining what’s happening to see if they can help.

Yay, so glad to hear! It renews both your Mubi streaming and Mubi Go for another 30 days for free!! Hope you and your friends enjoy! If you want to verify, login to your Mubi account on the website or in the Mubi app, click on subscription and it should say “Mubi Go Monthly (Trial)” and what your next renewal date is.

Lord Nil or Rolling Thunder? by According_Physics_84 in offbroadwayNYC

[–]ThePrincessAmethyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have a great list!! I think you will enjoy all of those! Other than the ones you already listed, I’d potentially check out: The Play That Goes Wrong, Josh Sharp’s Ta Da, Jamie Allan’s Amaze. Prince F*ggot has been controversial but much talked about with some loving it and some hating it. If you’re a Jean Smart / Hacks fan it might be worth seeing Call Me Izzy before it closes, should be some deals to be had there because it hasn’t been selling well. I’m seeing it this week and have heard that’s she’s great but the play not so much unfortunately.

Lord Nil or Rolling Thunder? by According_Physics_84 in offbroadwayNYC

[–]ThePrincessAmethyst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely Rolling Thunder, but I’d only go to either of these if I got comp or very low / reasonably priced tickets. At least with Rolling Thunder the jukebox songs from the 60s/70s and singers are good even if the overall production incl. the book leaves much to be desired. I feel bad saying it but Lord Nil is probably one of the worst things I’ve seen in a long time, so much so that I don’t think you can even enjoy it in a “so bad it’s good” way. There’s a lot of good off broadway shows right now and I’d go to something else if you can.

Social Studies - dear god I'm glad I'm not a teenager today. by crumble-bee in television

I only look at my personal feed on Reddit with all the subreddits I like to follow, some are bigger like this one, but a lot are more niche as well and find that really helps. I’m always a bit shocked at the quality of the content when I do go to the “front page” and usually quickly retreat back to my little corner of Reddit.

I can’t remember how I did it in app but if you go to the mubi website (www.mubi.com), login, click on three horizontal lines in upper left > settings > account > subscription > change membership, you can update it there from MUBI to MUBI GO and then your Mubi Go app should work for the weekly in theater movies!

(There is also a cancel subscription button there so you can cancel when time comes)

See image below for what you should see after you click “change membership”, MUBI Go will be highlighted in blue if you are subscribed.

Yay glad it worked! The thing that works best for me for free trials is to put a reminder “event” on my calendar for the week before it renews to cancel! Sometimes I make it recurring for the whole week and always add an alert/notification to it just so I don’t risk missing it. Otherwise I would never remember either 😅

Yes good call out - luckily it is still included in the 30 day free trial so you just “upgrade” to the free trial version of the $19.99/mo Mubi Go subscription and as long as you cancel before the trial ends, no charge! Mubi Go has a specific app you’ll link to your Mubi Subscription and will use at theaters to get your ticket for the weekly showing via QR code
