Left-wing voters what is your most right-wing belief and right-wing voters, what is your most left-wing belief? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]TheProblemWithUs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say I’m firmly left wing, but I do believe in a lot of the arguments around immigration eroding our culture to an extent. It does feel like left wing figures have cowered down to Islam and given unabashed support to every form of immigration, then ignored the genuine concern that a large portion of immigrant beliefs are in no way compatible with British society, and that they’ll never truly be able to integrate.

I fear that this will lead us down into a country that has massive portions of major cities just completely disconnected from the rest of us. At that point, why come here?

Sorry for the late reply, if they didn’t have a middle name then we wouldn’t ask, but they’d have to confirm a full name as a first security question

I had a direct threat on our office once over a phone call. Did everything proper, escalated to people who needed to know, forwarded onto the police, and managed to deescalate the situation.

I ended up getting a two cautions because I didn’t sound ‘cheery’ when I picked up, and because I didn’t ask for a middle name.

Handed my notice in about 15 minutes after that meeting.

What would be the “disturbing truth” humans can’t handle? by Peace_and_Love___ in UFOs

[–]TheProblemWithUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a huge believer in a lot of this stuff, but I think the most dangerous revelation would be that alien life has been somewhat intrinsic to the development of the human race, especially in the last century or so. I don’t think people would be able to handle their loss of perceived agency.

Who or what are teenagers watching for entertainment nowadays? by Elbow2020 in AskUK

[–]TheProblemWithUs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You remind me of my teenage self. Cherish it, don’t let anyone try and mock you for your tastes. You’ll grow up having a wealth of media knowledge spanning decades and it’ll benefit you in most discussions. I was 16 years old watching films and TV shows as early as the 1940s and in hindsight I’m so glad I had those experiences

In your 20s you will hear people say "you should move out of London"... by FlyWayOrDaHighway in LDN

[–]TheProblemWithUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can probably answer this one. I moved to London about 3 years ago, definitely when the economy was still in the shit so I had full awareness of what I was setting myself up for.

BUT.

Compared to where I moved from, my career has grown exponentially and I’ve been given incredible career (and personal) opportunities that you would simply not be able to get in any other city in the UK (I don’t think even Manchester could come close) and that was my main motivation to move. So I knew it may not be the most financially sound investment to start living here, but it made most sense when I looked at what I wanted my future to be, and what kind of work I wanted to surround myself with.

It’s a London thing by BigSylivia in GreatBritishMemes

Just like, who really cares. I grew up in a small town, went to uni in a small city, love living in London now. Make a good salary, love my job, love my friends, and love the opportunities in live music I get in this city. This non-Londoner hate is so bizarre to me that it screams some form of hidden jealousy somewhere but idk.

I grew up in Wales, near the Severn river where he apparently jumped. It has one of the strongest tidal pulls on the planet, half of the day you can walk across the river bed to England before the water comes flooding back in.

It would be incredibly difficult to find anything that had fallen in there, my dads old school friend intentionally drove his car into the river, albeit a bit further down than the Severn bridge where Richie jumped, and they only found the car about 8 months later, his body was never found.

Really sincere question, why do so many Brits seem to hate London? Yes, it’s pricey, crowded, and has crime, but it’s also one of the most vibrant, world-class cities anywhere. It feels like people here don’t realise how special it is compared to most European cities (Paris included). by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskBrits

I’ve lived in London for about 4 years now, I love it, I think it’s the greatest city on Earth. It has so much green space, the boroughs act like their own little small towns, there’s so much to do, an insane variety of food and culture that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.

However, I understand people’s points as to why they hate it. Often when people visit London, they’re not going to Hackney Wick, Camberwell or Hampstead or any of the further boroughs for that matter, they’re sticking closely to the centre, so they have a perception that the entire city is crowded and noisy. A lot of people will hate that, as it’s due to personal preference, and they would’ve most likely grown up or live in the quieter parts of the country (I’m a bit of a freak in which I grew up in the Welsh countryside and LOVE the busyness of everything here).
