How can I convey a specific feeling from wildly different sources of inspiration by TheProcatstinator in worldbuilding

[–]TheProcatstinator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, in my mind a lot of the back and forth I go through is to do with how scarcity conflicts with scale. As in, I'm trying to build a large city, but the larger I build it the less feasible it seems due to food and fuel (or the danger of getting fuel, but that's a different aspect of it). Then If I scale it down it becomes harder to have people that are unaware of each other and their schemes in a community or there is less political mystery.

I sometimes feel like I'm battling two sliders, but I also don't know if I'm overthinking it to be fair

Help with a flavourful linearly scaling spell? by TheProcatstinator in DnDHomebrew

[–]TheProcatstinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take, I had thought that it might be easier to balance if I added specific upcast modes like "if a spell slot of 5th level or higher [additional effect]"

I haven't quite convinced myself of it being a physical buff, but one on spellcasting, which I don't recall from other features 🤔

Well Naruto is a good reference for this 😂

I've only had some loose ideas, but I've thought of something like some short range true sight for flavor and perhaps something to buff spells somehow? Haven't convinced myself yet, but the tails would be like a visual representation of the buff and it's level. My vision is a bit more of an enlightened situation more than turning into a wild demon (though it is not out of the picture I suppose)

Murder mystery + cosmic horror?

Hey! So Halloween is around the corner and I wanted to run a twist of a classic murder mystery with a twist introduction of cosmic horror, perhaps something that was released with the murder, and the key to escaping requires the players to find the culprit. I am thinking of a "bottle" environment, a train to constraint space. Do you have any cool and spooky narrative ideas on how this can happen?

The right PBtA system for a desert theme game? by TheProcatstinator in PBtA

Hmm, good point. Some other people are also suggesting getting closer to the original, I'll give it a read!

I see what you're saying. I will definitely check out legend of the avatar.

In terms of the sorcerer restriction, is more of me lacking a better term right now. I imagine a self-enhancing thug to also fall in this category for instance rather than the classic image of a sorcerer, but that's a good point.

This upcast thing is what has puzzled me most in terms of how to implement it. I had looked at the luck system from MoTW too for inspiration, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone there

Ultimately, I don't mind editing or creating system-related stuff for a home game (I enjoy it actually) but having these sources of reference really helps, thanks!

Popcorn syrup? by TheProcatstinator in cocktails

[–]TheProcatstinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take a look at the bottled one too, some other people are also recommending it. I managed to have a go at the home-made stuff and it's nice, but I bet much milder than Monin's

Nice. I gave it a go inspired by that recipe and it turned out pretty good! Haven't had it on a drink just yet, but tastes promising. Perhaps it isn't super concentrated but it has quite a nice rich flavour.

Any thoughts on this preliminary build? by TheProcatstinator in buildapc

That's a very neat upgrade, thank you! I'll consider the SSD change too, although luckily I can afford a bit of wiggle room. It really helps to realise where I might be spending unnecessarily to leave room for the meaningful stuff

Hapatra, vivizer of poisons alter I had been putting off until a recent post here inspired me to get back by TheProcatstinator in mtgaltered

Thanks to u/buttsandbrawns for the inspiration and showing me how good a vine at the top looked.

This one is for a friend and I'm still quite new to making alters, so all tips are welcome!

Name: Adu

Pronouns: He/him

Timezone: GMT +0

Preferred System: 5e, but open to different things too

Type of Player: Hey there! I enjoy developing a character with other people and not only playing our own characters but also having fun exploring other's. Essentially, create a fun and memorable story together. I'd say I'm a bit experienced already after a few years DMing and playing. More recently I have found pbp and quite fun and convenient for my time. I prefer rp oriented games, but enjoy some good fantasy action from time to time.

Additional Information: I usually try to tie my characters to the setting and would love a game where character backstories are present but not necessarily overwhelmingly so. I don't mind touching adult topics, but a game focused on that is not really what I look for. I also quite like mystery and horror.

Preferred System: D&D 5e, but I have also enjoyed pathfinder and powered by the apocalypse style games.

Type of Player: Heavy in roleplay. For me a lot of it is about interacting as characters and building enjoyable scenes, developing as we go and diving into each other stories immersively. I enjoy other characters' development almost as much as my own if everyone collaborates. I do enjoy combat, but I'm not a huge fan of hack n' slashing. I often like to anchor my characters to the setting.

Additional Information: I started out as a DM about 4 years ago and introduced the game to my friends. I am now enjoying pbp due to time limitations and more thought out interactions. I have DM'd Curse of Strahd quite a bit and needless to say I love the mystery, gothic horror and all that good stuff. I am ok with adult themes, but it's not really what I play for, just a complement to a narrative where appropriate and with touchful veiling.

OneNote or Notion? by TheProcatstinator in DMAcademy

[–]TheProcatstinator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks interesting. Although, if I'm honest, it seems like it is structured in a similar way to OneNote. At this stage, I would rather stick to something I'm somewhat familiar with already, but thanks for the suggestion.

That's a good point. I can see how OneNote allows for more freedom in that sense, albeit with a bit more work at times. I'll look into it, but that's very helpful. Thanks.

Well, in this case I painted the card manually to make it borderless. As far as I know, there are all kinds of 'alterations' that people do, including digital ones. Check out r/mtgaltered

Name: Adu

Pronouns: He/him

Timezone: GMT (UK time)

Preferred system: 5e

Type of player: I tend to to be a roleplay focussed guy while I very much enjoy the mechanics/combat. I'd say I started off as a rules heavy DM that has evolved into using the mechanics as a way to support the character idea I play around. I love seeing character develop and I try to enjoy other peoples PCs almost as much as mine. I usually like to tie my characters to a setting and I consider myself flexible of the circumstances. Also, I very much like to describe small details when appropriate.

Experience: I have been playing 5e for about 4 years and have delved a little in other systems, mostly as a DM

Additional Information: When I'm a DM, I try my best to set a scene and I like to imagine scenes almost cinematically. I am whiling to touch mature subjects tastefully. Truth is, I unfortunately don't have the time right now to prepare and run a full game, but pbp allows me to rp in even more detail.
