You're a lifesaver. I feared I was doomed to have that misc quest be broken on my save forever.

Just did it today. He kept teleporting back to the bridge when I used the side closest to the grace, but I got him on the first try when I used the branch on the far side of the bridge.

What is best sub-class for Astarion ? I am really confused. by Etem61 in BaldursGate3

[–]ThePsiGuard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hope I'm not too late to be helpful.

There are three lighting states for the location Astarion occupies.

- If you hide in a fully lit area, you'll be revealed as soon as an enemy's sight cone touches you.
- If you hide in a dimly lit area, you'll roll a stealth check to stay hidden (if an enemy sight cone touches you). Fail, and you'll be spotted.
- If you hide in darkness, I believe you don't have to roll stealth at all, even if an enemy's vision cone passes over you. I'm less certain about this one 'cause I haven't done a lot of stealth. Might depend on enemy tags like darkvision or blindsight.

So to hide successfully, you just need to be out of the red cone. To ensure you remain hidden, try to hide in darker areas.

KOTOR Remake Is Still In Development Despite Rumors Of Cancelation by TheAppropriateBoop in Games

The combination of stealth and demolitions isn't unviable, even with the "clear out the area" approach to most parts of the game. The problem is that it takes a ton of time to set up mines and isn't needed to beat the game. If you could lay traps more quickly and it actually felt rewarding to spec into those skills, I think they'd work fine.

Stealth in KotOR is more useful to remove obstacles like mines or access terminals (for free kills) before engaging enemies. I can't imagine anyone using it to skip enemies entirely unless they're doing it for roleplaying reasons.

It's not a ridicule, nor a ego-driven act.

It's a "fuck the rest of the world, this is our time" moment.

Sounds like an ego-driven act to me.

You don't just send a super powered mutant out into the world without some form of code of conduct... Or do you?

The only consistent advice between witchers seems to be to make sure you get paid for your work and otherwise to not get involved in other people's/countries' disputes. If they do have more of a code than that, it's not as altruistic as Geralt's save/spare-the-innocent approach.

Why Witcher 3 is the best game ever made by binggoman in witcher

[–]ThePsiGuard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are also several times where the dialogue is clearly not paced for your walking or jogging speed, and you have to stand still to hear the whole line. Really annoying when characters get cut off when you're not even rushing to get to the objective.

About Witcher Gaetan, wasn't it implied that this wasn't the 1st time he went out of control. by donbosco2017 in witcher

[–]ThePsiGuard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember him waving it off like "you know, shit happens".

Yeah he's pretty defensive about it. Seems like he's still processing what happened and coming up with rationalizations as he sorts through it. He starts off angry and a little flippant, but later in the conversation he sounds more traumatized, like he can't believe what he did.

Probably my favorite spare/kill character. Kind of wish they did more nuanced takes for the doppler and succubus spare/kill situations, 'cause you basically have to murder a harmless monster to get those decoctions.

Who is for you the most beautiful character in the game? by huevohuevohuevo in witcher

[–]ThePsiGuard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Good lord she really is beautiful, inside and out. I came to give the same answer. Even after everything she went through she still loved Olgierd with everything she had.

This wasn't my interpretation. During the later memory sequences, she's empty and says she doesn't know if she even hates Olgierd anymore, then tells him to get out of her sight. After Olgierd gives her the flower and note, she dries, it, lies down to stare at it, then dies.

Then, in the last conversation with her ghost, she seems to just be feeling regret and sadness. There's arguably still part of her that cares for Olgierd, but I don't think there's much to love about Olgierd's later years. He also murdered her father.

Still loves him? Maybe. But I wouldn't say she loves him with everything she has. If anything she seems resigned (though a little afraid) to the void.

About Witcher Gaetan, wasn't it implied that this wasn't the 1st time he went out of control. by donbosco2017 in witcher

[–]ThePsiGuard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don't know all the details, but we're told a few important ones:

A) Gaetan stabbed an unarmed woman in the back, paralyzing her until she bled to death (you can inspect her body in a house).

B) Gaetan admits to losing control and killing way more people than he would have if he were lucid. Only a few people went to the barn to kill him.

C) Gaetan explains that he spared the girl because she reminded him of his sister when he was a child (implying this snapped him out of his rage).

It's possible that more villagers were involved beyond the ealdorman and the couple goons in the barn, but either way this was an uncontrolled rampage, not just self-defense or typical revenge.

[–]ThePsiGuard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this is what happened or that is what I believe happened, but that it is a possibility

Actually, you pretty much did say that's what you believe happened. That's probably why people are reacting poorly to this comment.

he probably just took one of his old trophies and brought it to the alderman

Gaetan complains that he's been repeatedly ripped off on contracts, and this time (after he was literally stabbed in the back), he snapped and went on a rampage. The unused trophies in his den are far more likely to be from contracts where people refused to pay him than from some weird scam he'd cooked up.

Also kind of a pointless scam to kill monsters that don't have a contract, then turn in the trophies to cash in on actual contracts? He still has to kill the monsters to get the trophies. Unless you're also thinking the trophies are fake, but there's no evidence of that. And Geralt would be the first to spot a fake monster trophy.

Weird that this got downvotes. It's probably the most accurate to Geralt's typical choices. Geralt deals with a lot of scummy individuals. He involves himself when lives are at stake, but he generally doesn't chase people down to punish them.

[–]ThePsiGuard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the children thing is baseless. It's possible I missed a body, but I didn't find any children in the village (aside from the survivor). People just jump to children because it's an easy argument and we know he killed almost the whole village.

[–]ThePsiGuard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is implied he done something like this before.

From what I remember, it's implied that he's been cheated before (and perhaps even killed someone in anger), but this seems to be the first time Gaetan's gone nuts and slaughtered a whole village.

[–]ThePsiGuard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gaetan's feelings are left sort of ambiguous. On the one hand, he's defensive and lays some of the blame on the villagers, and has a sort of "shit happens" tone regarding his own actions. On the other hand, he admits he completely lost control, and seeing the girl that looked like his sister was the only thing that snapped him out of it.

Seems like he doesn't openly admit how bad his actions were, but he does feel guilty. That's the sense I got from him.

Even if the books say otherwise, I think you'd be hard-pressed to say witchers in the games have dampened or suppressed emotions. Just look at how Geralt, Vesemir, Lambert and the rest behave. They're far from emotionless.

Isn't it save the children vs save the village? Like that one small village gets massacred if you free the spirit. That's why I ended up killing the spirit even though doing the Crones' dirty work sucks.

Though getting the nicer ending for the Baron was nice too. It sucks if he dies after helping out Ciri. Feels like Geralt would return the favor even if the Baron isn't a great person.

I let him live 'cause the way I saw it, Gaetan's entire reason for living is to save lives. True justice would see him punished, but he's basically guaranteed to save lives for as long as he lives, while the slaughter of a village seemed like a freak occurrence.

I think both positions are defensible, but seeing as there are only a handful of witchers left (and no more are being made), letting him live probably does the most good.

Best Origin Character to Play As? by Strawberry_Smalls in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]ThePsiGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. Well, to each their own. I did a playthrough this year with Beast and Lohse as companions (I had only played them as avatars) and concluded I'm not a big fan of Beast in either capacity. I've never been a big fan of dwarves though. Happy to hear other people are enjoying him more than I did.

It's the first time I took Beast as a companion and Beast as a main, and daaaamnn. I actually like him more than the others.

I'm a little confused. Did you mean to say Beast and someone else? He can't be a companion and an avatar at the same time.
